to be honest I wouldnt want to wish the Oulton park trip on anyone from the south. I know the trip to Wrexham well I do it at lest 8 time a year.

But.....

The trip to Rockingham or Donington aint fun and games for the Northerners or the Scots but its something we have done for 20 years , about time the favour were returned , however the issue isn't distance to travel North/South , its a suitable venue for both track entertainment and concours/regional group parking that needs addressed.

What can be done?
1 Bring National day further NORTH!!!!!! loads more cars north of Manchester would come down if it wasn’t so far darn sarf Oulton Park is the way forward ?
2 National day 2 day event
3 KILL CONCOURS!!!!! Show and shine is the way forward works for ford fair so it will work for RSOC National day. Most peeps now like to use there cars there getting to old for the concours thing it’s past it’s sell by date its’ just hassle from the start t finish
5 BRING THE FUN BACK INTO IT
1 venue 120 old skool + tour = 120 HAPPY BUNNYS it’s that easy

ford fair show n shine didnt work,it was a total **** up and i believe its back to concourse next year

the problem with concourse is down to the concoure people,not the way national day was run,give them a corner to them self and let them fight it out amougst them self

think Kel has suggested Mallory on the RSOC BB , central location and probably cheaper than Donno or Rockingham , however , I get the feeling RSOC will be back at Rockingham again next year .

Kel - i have been travelling 6 hours to Donnington/Stanford Hall for the last 20 years..to say you wouldn`t wish a trip to Oulton Park on anyone from the South is laughable! That statement suggests to me you want it on your doorstep..no consideration for anyone else.
A large percentage of old skool cars are in Cumbria/Scotland/Ireland..so it makes sense to move it further North.(hence the success of old skool tour) Oulton looks fairly central and has something for everyone.

national day for me is the lakes tour weekend.using the car beer,barbie ,maybe a quick wash (not the car me)i have said before that concourse is finished among old skool.just look at the amount of bickering,back stabbing,sweety wifes talk, before and after national day .

Ders, you got me completely wrong. Yes the comment was laughable as it was meant as a Joke, was its a crap drive; rather drive to Tankersley. In a post on the RSOC I said "Distance isnt an issue for me, I would drive 2-3 hours more for National day which if it was the case that would equal or exceed your 6 hours drive, it took us in kent 4 hours 30 minutes to get home and some where an hour on that and I'm north kent. what is was get at was the trip isnt the best in the word. I dont want it on my door step I just would like to see it at a better venue.

If I wanted it on my door step I would want it a Brands Hatch and I would not of suggested a location like Oulton which I would be quite happy to do. It would be nice to have at least 1 RS / Ford related show within 130 miles of Kent (which is distance to the most local RS related show for us) over the whole year.

Heres a thought and it may be very stupid , why not have an annual 'old skool' trackday and show at Oulton Park , the growing success of the Lakes Tour has shown the interest is strong. Would take a lot of costings and organising but maybe the way to go in the future if we want a National Day like it used to be. Organised between , rallyesportescorts / sose / oldskoolford / avo / capri club ....etc

That sounds a fantastic idea..... a bit like Classic Ford at Santa Pod with a track? That was the best this year in my opinion.
