  • New car on the Horizon

    Hi All,

I'm very very excited, but I need some advice.

I have won a bubble arched MK1 Mex on 'e' bay (link below).

I am no expert on MK1's and wondering if there is a buyers guide anywhere?....ie what I need to look out for to make sure I'm getting the real item. Or if any of you can tell me what to look out for, identifying features, with photos, or have any knowledge of the car, please let me know.

Or, better still, is there anyone near to Newport, South Wales that would spare some time to view it with me when I buy it about 6.30pm on Friday?

Any help would be most appreciated, (not digs about the Vauxhall lump)

    Thanks,

    Aled

Dont want to sound funny here Aled but youve paid £10K for a very very nice MK1 with a V******L engine, now what info are you looking for?

I think its a cracking car no matter if its described as a MEX with that engine it does not really affect it

I can confirm its a genuine MK1 though LOL

The Vauxhall engine will do until I can afford a cosworth ... so there.

I know the identifying features of a proper MK2. Spare wheel strap bracket, exhaust hangers etc etc.
I just don't know too much about MK1's. I didn't expect to win it Bri, but nothing lost as the chap has already said he won't be offended if I don't buy it.....he's had 14k offered since.

How have you confirmed it to be correct Bri?...thats the info I need m8.

Nice car Aled . V******l engine or not, I like it .
Stick a proper screaming crossflow in when you get bored with the other engine .

There is nothing wrong with the vauxhall engine.....many people put them into escorts,a yb engine is very costly sometimes!!
As ive said before al,the car looks great, and it should be a gen mex shell at that price

very pretty car Aled, well done, i bought a Astra GTE mk2 in 89 when they first came out with the 16v engine, good strong engine, nought wrong with that.
