  • Real RS2000 MK2 or a Copy?!

    Hi All,

    I'm after purchasing my long time Dream Car, an RS2000 MK2.
    And as you all know, when you get a car like this back home to your humble abode, you start to go through it with a tooth combe, to pin point exactly what you have bought??!!!

    My question to all of you is this?!
    I'm just wondering to myself, if it indeed is a Real RS2000 or a very good copy?!

    How would i go about verifiying for myself, that it is or is not the real McCoy!!

    One thing i would really love to know is, i have seen some cars that have a number, possibly a chassis number stamped on the Top Plate of the Drivers Side Front Strut, facing towards the Headlamps?

    Now i dont have that number stamped on mine, nor do i have the chassis plates on the Slam Panel, but everything else seem's as it should....

    I'm probably worring about nothing, but i would hate to think that i got stung for a Copy!!!!

    Any help would be greatly appreicated..
    P.S. - The Tax book is ok, also its an Irish Car.

    Do you have the following;
    speedo cable holding bracket on drivers side front floor pan.
    twin hook bracket for exhaust mounted below back seat area of floor.
    spare wheel strap bracket mounted on chassis leg in boot ( as opposed to the side of the spare wheel well)
    Back box exhaust hanger mounted at rear of chassis.
    Anti tramp bars fitted to axle and floor (does it look like they have been added..poor welding etc)
    Strengthers at top and bottom of inner wing turrets. ( rs inners could have been fitted to a standard shell, so the above bits will give you a better guide)

    these are some pointers to help you find out.

                          BTW if the original engine was fitted the last two letters of and the numbers of the VIN would be the same as the engine no. too. i.e. BBATWP954210

                            Thanks everybody!!

                            Hi all again,

                            Ok, i'm at work at the moment people, but what of that i can remember from last night after looking at it, is as follows;

                            1). Speedo Cable Holding Bracket. I dont know, need to check!
                            2). Deffinetiley has the Twin Hook for the Exhaust.......
                            3). Spare Wheel Bracket in Boot. I dont know, need to check!
                            4). Deffinetiley has the Back Box Exhaust Hanger on chassis.........
                            5). Deffinetiley has the Anti-Tramp Bars & they are U-shaped........
                            6). Deffinetiley has the Strengthers at the Top........ never looked at the Bottom tho?!
                            7). Deffinetiley has the Standard Top Mounting..... But i sanded the Plate down to see if i could get that number, but i couldnt see any..... and it dosent look like it has been welded either....
                            8). As for the Engine numbers matching the VIN or Log Book, thats a deff no!! Must have got a new engine at some stage??!!! But the Engine is good and tight, dry as a Bone, no Oil leaks, has real good Oil Pressure and ticks over real sweat!!..........
                            9). Yeah, the owner said its genuine, plus it was NCT'd last year, that's an MOT for you lads!!
                            10). It has the 4 speed box, twin props, english diff ( T36 ), weber 32/34, glove box - with clock!!..... ehh, alloy sump, alloy alternator bracket, the T.C.A's look very thick and chunky, if that help's, ventilated front disc's....

                            Like, i'm probably worring about nothing......
                            I have no pic's as of yet, but will do in a few days.....
                            Just would like to get the all clear 1st, thought you's guy's who know these cars inside out would help me out, thats all.....

                            Thanks.
