I don't quite understand all the jibes...when you see it in 6 months time when it's probably been bubble arched, painted and sporting a new BDA/ZF/Atlas in place of the standard running gear, then I'll almost guarantee that most of you will be drooling over it and saying what a gorgeous car it is.

      Go figure....

but theres plenty of cars suitable for cutting the tripe out of, which will happen gauranteed, when converting theres so much removed you might as well buy a scrapper ? than ruin a std low mileage car dont you think

I took a mex to someone for grp4 conversion, it looked very sad for itself, but the amount of floor removed, and then the arches bulkhead and other things it didnt need to be a decent car to start as long as the roof pillers and sides where straight , thats all it needed

I know what you're saying Brian, but when someone's spending anywhere between £50'000 and £100'000 on a full spec car, then £5k on a shell is neither here nor there...and to be honest most rally preparation specialists won't entertain a shit-shed of a shell as a starting point anymore.

10 years ago who gave a flying furk about a standard 2-door Mk1 or Mk.2...now some folk seem to think they should be a protected species. Doesn't matter what any of us think anyway, there are guys out there with far bigger wallets than ours that will continue to find the mintiest cars and shells possible and chop them up...no matter whether they were a 1100 Pop or a RS1800 to begin with.

                  It's a waste.........

plenty of ropey shells about that are still plenty good enough for rallying, but a 12 K shell, it's just ****ing cynical (i.e. must be a really rust free shell)

I think the point being is that these cars are unofficially a "protected species" as the bloody things rotted out for a pastime, and if nobody cared about these cars how come the AVO and RS OC's were formed over 25 years ago.

I just wonder why these people must buy up these cars (esp. low mileage ones) and then "destroy" them just to hunt 'em through the forest, as they must "feel" something for these cars or surely they would rally a Chevette or Sunbeam or.........

i just find it funny people moan when they see concourse cars being trailed about stored in bubbles and not being used as much as they could but then they also moan at the rallies for used them as ford did in the 70s lol

wonder if Worthers will end up "in the woods" , depending on future ownership and availability of shells

the black beastie will, thats a cert,

Totally agree, take a rot box to a grp4 fabricator and he will send you packing, if he dosn't he will charge you ££££££££££more. I know which shell i would want if i was driving through the sticks at 100mph+!

That's it Gerard...if you save £2k on a cheaper shell than needs patching up then it'll cost you £3k+ to have it made solid enough to use!! Those of you that've never been in a proper gravel rally car in the woods will never appreciate just how much of a pounding they get...so you want the best shell you can lay your hands on to begin with because your life quite literally depends on it. 110mph on the motorway may not seem that quick, but with fairly immovable forestry 3 feet either side of the door handles believe me it's a different matter.

It's an emotive subject for sure. I'm an Escort fanatic through and through and havn't been without a Mk.2 of my own since I was 15, but my passion in life is rallying. If there's choice between keeping a minty standard car on the road or a reshell on my rally car...then I know for certain which one will be getting the attention of my plasma cutter.

Firstly this is a bit narrow minded/greedy way of looking at it and secondly it removes good cars from the market makes the Mk1/MkII much more expensive and people that would love one will surely never to be able to get hold of one, there are plenty of other cars that can be rallied too!

If that's you're reasoning the first cars to sent to the forests must surely be the remaining 18s and 16s, if people keep on consuming these cars when will it stop as these people with 50-100K for a car will destroy even the most expensive shells to fulfill their greed, and at first the "ordinary" RS's will then be consumed and then it really will mean the 18s will it.

BTW as I said nobody's forcing people to hurtle through the forests are they?
