I think that if your honest and your intentions are honest there isn,t a problem. If you try to make something into something it isn,t, thats a problem. I personally would do everything to retain the RS shell. Thats just my opinion Its an RS, because its an RS, if thats makes sense. A 1.6 sport, wasn,t isn,t and wont ever be an RS. I think you know what i,m trying to say.

as befor a RS shell is only a base 2 door with some extra bits on it...
it does make them worth more yes but it don't matter nowdays
as a mint mk2 escort 1.1 2 door with some very nice mods
"EG"
2.1
5 speed
slipper
alloy bits
wheels
trim
and all the other bits to make it nice will sell for just as much as a RS will
if somone does one for there own car then all well and good
but if you do one for a resale and don't tell anyone then that is wrong
i was going to build one befor but didn't in the end cos it's not a genuine shell
and taking your car to the shows nowdays will just get taken apart from ppl that don't like the idea
for e it don't matter if it's a 1.1 4 door or a 1.6 ghia 2 door or a RS1800
they are all mk2 escorts and need to be loved by the owners
yes i do have genuine RS escort only cos i want to show them at the RS shows across the uk
and don't want a black eye every time i take it to a show
as befor on this BB we have spoken about reshells and there is nothing wrong with it aslong as it's safe after the work has been done
no police of the dvla can do anything about it
as it's been done for years now
just let ppl do what they need to do and don't pic holes in there work
i asked a Q about a RS1800 reshell....i don't bother me it's been a reshell
thats why i was asking about it
there are alot of ppl out there that have a suspect mind's
if you don't own the car then it's nothing to do with you !
just let them bee and enjoy your own car....sigpiccheeRS paul

Two things here, firstly the RS is a variant of the STD car, it is relatively straightforward to fit the reinforcement panels, not so easy is the gearstick hole.
A proper RS drives differently to a STD car and was as a new car much more expensive, and until recently commanded far more money as one a more desirable car and they were actually "worth" more
The price differential has now closed thanks to the Bay driving the price of STD models sky high.
My motivation for buying an RS wouldn't have anything to do with others picking fault with my car (esp. if it's not an RS) I just prefer an RS, it's just a nice motor, and with a few minor mods can be made even better.
It takes a lot more time and effort to convert a STD model into something really spesh

it may take more time but ppl are still doing a standard 2 door as there are lots of mint 2 doors out there still and none rs2000 or mexico's thats why ppl still do them
as for the driving of the rs car to a standard car
i have had both and loads of them i have also fitted in the past a full RS kit to a mk2 and if it's done right you will never know what was whatsigpiccheeRS paul
