kev, do your homework, but two or 3 home cinema mags and make sure you get it at an ace price, things are moving fast in the tv world, we spent big bucks on a 36" crt tv less than 2 years ago, as i heard bad things about rear projectors, lcd's werent very big and plasmas has life issues and some had a separate box to drive the screen, hence the coice to stick with crt, good picture mind. but gutted at what you can get now

Would never by a LCD for large sceen use as the pixel refresh is to slow when compaired to plasma.
Had our 43inch pioneer for 3 years, not one issue, its the main TV and gets used every day for hours !
Kev, compare models of TV you can budget for. Go somewhere like John lewis where they have a good selection to compare against or take advice from these guys.

Plasmas & LCD TV's need a period of running in on low brightness and contrast setting for a good 100 hours before you'll get the best out of the display.

Hi,
I think LCD's have the edge of Plasma's.............but not by much.
However, you should be looking at the tech specs more than anything else......i.e. the resolution of the LCD/PLasma.
Don't buy anything that is not "HD ready".......AND has a resolution of 1366*768 or better. If you can oafford it then buy something with 1920x1080.
You won't notice the resolution differences with your normal SKY box, but when you eventually upgrade to HD then that's when you'll need it. Buy anything less than 1366*768 now and you'll be buying again in 2 or 3 years.
Ian.

Lots to look at now. Thank you all. Had another little look today and have seen a very nice 42" Plasma Panasonic which has top reviews and all the goodies. Do agree with Panasonic stuff as I have a 32" Panasonic Pro Logic CRT thingy and it is brilliant in every way apart from size. Need to find a good sturdy wall bracket as well.
