          • Have the same set-up on mine but for 15" wheels - unfortunately I bought them about 3 years ago and the car still hasn't turned a wheel.

So, mine don't make a noise either

The sound of the grinder from Hoarder towers will be the subject of a new post.

I'll cover the whole story in one post when it's done I think

I'm sure the debate on "Max Power" style aluminium chequer plate exhaust heat shields will rage on while I'm cutting out the small semi circle from the new back panel
                  Cheers Rob.

Escort been on the road for 2 years, with 2 very enjoyable Lakes Tours completed. Fitted the AP front brakes with Gartrac Pedal box last winter .....the car now stops as well as it goes..

                        • Re fit after new rear panel

At last the Escort is back together and ready for the Lakes Tour 2011.
I started to refit out the boot back in January, but I went on a business trip with work and did not get the car fully assembled until mid March.

I waited until the 1st of April to tax the car and then took the Escort out for a road test to check that the refit to the fuel system had not changed how the car performed.

I had connected the lap to the ECU to data log the test drive. The results showed the fuel pressure was fluctuating by about a bar, this was making the fuelling go lean randomly. This was not good as I could in a worst case scenario damage the engine.

Also, while the engine was idling, I could hear the running sound of high pressure fuel pump changing note. I had plenty of fuel in the tank, so it had to be an electrical fault.

Few checks with the volt meter showed I had good voltage at the pump, but when I checked for continuity on the earth…..it was poor.

The cause, fresh paint over the pump earths to the chassis ground. A clean off of the paint at the chassis earth and an additional earth wire from the low pressure pump to chassis ground and the fuel pressure was back at a steady 4 bar.

                          Pictures below of refit.

Escort delivered back from Hoarders Escort Emporium in early January

Wiring Loom and battery cable laid out

                          Battery and wiring

                          Fuel tank

Fuel pumps, filter and swirl pot

Spare wheel post and spare wheel

Finished with rear lights, rear bumper and badges

                          Before and after shots.
First with the old back panel with cut out, this is the only picture I have of the rear of the car which has taken an age to find.
This was taken on the high speed banking on the Ford test track at Dunton for the Retro Ford Magazine article.
Strange that all the hundreds of photo’s that I have taken, I never have taken a photo of the back of car. I must sub consciously never liked how the car looked from the back.

                          Job done

                          John
