  • Project 1972 Mk1 Escort van

Hi all! Just thought I'd start a new thread about the latest project.
Having sold the Mk1 Cortina GT I managed to track down a 1972 Mk1 Escort van 8 CWT. I've always wanted to get hold of a van as my father & grandfather had them years ago & have happy memories of travelling round in the back of them!

Overall this one is in very good condition bodywork wise so won't be a major job like the 1300 Sport was. It's had some restoration work done in the past but there's loads of faults to sort out, bits missing, wrongly fitted parts & some bits that need refurbishing or replacing but I'm liking it a lot!!

Anyway, here's a few pics on the day I bought it a few weeks ago, mor will follow on the progress soon

    cheers, Stu

            Cheers all!
I've already started pulling it apart, there's an endless list of jobs to sort out & put right on it. I've taken all the stickers off. The horrid all black grille is going, taken off the stick on number plates & replaced with some nice pressed aluminium ones. Paint stripped the rusty fuel filler guard ready for de-rusting & painting.
The interior will need some tidying at some point, various gauges are not working, rear door rubbers missing, brakes binding, throttle cable sticking, exhaust leak at joint, some of the chrome is a little scruffy, the list goes on but all will get sorted

That looks a nice tidy van.

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

Cheers! Not many of these old mk1 & mk2 vans left now.
I'm lucky with this one, it's a U.K one. I've got a list of all the previous owners, It spent much of it's life from 1972 until 2000 in the Essex area, Ilford & Dagenham.

                        cheers Stu.

Is it me or does a 6 clock in a van not seem right

I reckon I'd have to put it back to a 2 clock...but then i'm perverted like that.

Looks well Stu, look forward to seeing your progress.

Ideally I would have liked the standard 2 dial dash but it's quite a bit of work to change it back as the dash has been cut. As the rest of the bodywork is really good I'm going to leave the 6 dial in.

                              cheers, Stu.
