day off today so made a start. started prodding and picking at rusty bits.
cut out some rusty bits to see what panels i will need. worst area i have found is the petrol tank well to inner rear wheel arch.

dropped out the back axle to get at rear end.

went to my local motor factors to see about panels. suprisingly he had in stock a front panel and wings.

dont plan on starting the front end until i have the back end finished, but just ordered the lot while i was there.(in stock on monday)
ordered 2 wings, front panel, slam panel, rear panel, lower rear corner and petrol tank well. all for £170. which i thought was ok?the wings he had in stock had a few storage dings on them, so ordered new.
says he sells quite a few escort panels, so there must be a few about locally i dont know about.also he says he can no longer get hold of mk1 wings, and mk2s may go the same way.
the only panel i am struggling for is the scuttle panel. cant find a new one anywhere.
so panels will arrive monday, and i will start welding later next week.
    cheers.

just in case you thought i was slacking.........
couple of weeks off work due to sprained ankle,so hobbled into garage to make a start on the welding.
patched up both sides under rear seat, and inside rear wheel tubs.also done a n/s outer sill. quite time consuming making templates and cuttting steel. dosent look much but a good day and a half in there.just got the welds to clean up and i will make a start on the petrol tank and spare wheel well next week.
          cheers.

                  quick update........
after a few weeks pulling my hair out with a welder that was constantly playing up, bit the bullet and went and bought a new one so i can crack on.
wanting to get the rear end finished up. was going just to replace the lower rear valance, but rs-joe came up trumps with a complete new ford rear panel.
                  off came the old one........

                  on went the new one...........

got half a petrol tank well from express, the other half from hadrian.(neither company made a complete section!) so welded them together...

then cut out all rot from wheel tub and made a plate for it.......

pleased to get the worst welding out of the way.just got to tidy up welds and seal them tommorrow. then i have a little bit to do on the floor, then i can sort the front out, which should be fairly straight forward,i hope.
i also picked up some 15" rfx last week.

i must say, my old welder must of been on its last legs, as the new one was a dream to use. cheers.

excellent job, i'm booked in to learn mig welding at my local college in evening classes. 10 week course, 3 hours every thusday from 6-9pm. doesnt start till april 20th though, bloody thing has been booked solid for ages, lucky to get in on the last april course, otherwise i would have had to wait till september....again.

i'll be too scared to do it for real on a car no doubt

lee, you will pick it up in no time. this is the first car i have done properly myself. lots of tips and guidence from my brother who was a welder for a living. once you get the hang of it , its no bother. a good mig helps too.
                        good luck.

Back panel looks better on your car than in my loft. Great job.

                                Joe.
