                • How are the brakes working? I'm looking at vented/4 pots ( proper, not princess ) at the front, and a fostek disk conversion on the back, using a bias pedal box. However, I've had a number of people suggesting that the back brakes aspecially are not too good in daily use, due to the knock off caused by the puny wheel bearings, and that bias pedal boxes aren't too good either.

This car is my middle age crisis ( apparently ), and I really want to get all the bits I didn't have when I were a lad ( come to think of it, I used to run chrysler 180 disks on the back of my mex and I don't remember any problems there ). This may be clouding my judgement

                  What're your findings??

i have no front brakes on at the minute so cant comment. its a very popular conversion so i cant see there being a problem. dont think you will notice any pad knock off unless you are going for serious competition use.
ask in the tech section and im sure someone will help.
                    cheers.

                      • final final post as it is now 100% finished.
noticed in retro/classic ford that rally-design had mis-printed the price of a big front brake kit. they had put the price as incl vat instead of plus vat. . so i got on to them. they checked the mag and he spoke to his boss and they honoured the price.(saved about £70) went for 4 pot radial mounted midilites on a 285mm disc. fitted them but could not get the system bled. traced it to a broken master cylinder. got the bias set up with help from martyn(rs boreham-cheers). took it out for a run on sunday, did about 25 miles to check everything and it went well. brakes have good bite, but are kind of either off, or on. not much in-between. but very powerful when stamped on.

rear suspension has now settled itself and dropped a bit more, and the tyre was catching a little going over bumps. had to roll the arches a bit more but its fine now.

took it for m.o.t. this morning and it sailed through. only thing was pass headlight needed a slight adjustment. tester was convinced it should have a rear fog light, as i told him it didnt. we went through the vosa books and i was proved right, as its only after 1980 it needs one.
so thats it finished, totally wrong time of year though, but i can borrow some trade plates and have a run when i feel like it.
                        cheers all.

                        • Congrats Mark. Looks great. Same brake set up as I have. They will end up squeeling in the end Now's the boring bit though....Winter, and having it finnished. Don't do as I do and start thinking of bits that you don't really need for it just for something to do........Can get expensive

kev, took some advice off ders for which calipers to go for. the dynalites squeal and rattle as they only have one pin to hold the pad, where as the midilites have two.suprised at how light they are. but as you say, nows the hard bit, with it just sitting there. will give it a run now and then though.
                            cheers.

                            • I was just a tight git and bought the M16 replacement 4 pot kits. Seriously light and have good stopping power. No dust seals though and are prone to squeeking/rattling the pads. Apart from that. Great Just need the rears now.
