  • RS2000 winter upgrade

I promised the bloke that I bought this from that I wouldn't meddle with it, but "hey ho" it can all be put back.

Spare head modded by Peter Burgess in Alfreton I decided to keep standard valves and some gas flowing with unleaded seats and 10:1 compression, Kent FR31 cam kit and vernier. Type 9 to go in and my standard diff has been rebuilt by Custom with new bearings and a new Quaife ATB. 2.8 injection discs to go on and Goodrich hoses, and to finish it off a set of new 7" Minilites with 185/60 x 13 A539's. Going to be a busy OAP over the next few weeks.

Yes, he did a head for my MGB a few years back, thats why I went back to him. Very reasonable too and a nice bloke to deal with.

Box is out now ready to fit type 9, trial fitted the GC Escorts adaptor blocks for gearbox crossmember, slight adjustments needed, bit of extra chamfer here and there and cut the gearbox mounting and flatten a section to sit properly against the lowereing blocks. It looks ok just a matter of putting the 5 speeder in.

From RSJohn on here, if you search for adaptor or type 9 there's a thread on it.

Feels just the same, the adaptor makes the mounting the same as the RS box.

5 speeder now in, managed to get a new heavy duty gearbox mounting off fleabay, gone back to 2 piece prop and rebuilt diff from Custom with new bearings quaife atb back in. RS John's gearstick adaptor fitted well and gives a really slick shift.

Modded head and cam on next, refit Janspeed system and finish Gp1 front brake conversion and Goodrich hoses and ready for 1 March hitting of the road and the Lakes Tour.

Have to ration my time on the car as my 66 year old back is playing up with too much ligging on a cold garage floor.

I haven't tried my 7" minilites on yet, a bit bothered about clearance with 185/60 x 13's on. Car is currently lowered 1 1/2 " at the back, probably advisable to take it back to where Henry intended it to be, I managed to get some nos U bolts and nuts last week.

                              Anybody have any thoughts???
