While i'm asking about things i don't understand..I am a bit concerned about the hydraulic handbrake for the mot..Will it pass or do i need a mechanical brake. The car has been roadworthy and has tax disc and mot as recently as 2008.I did a google search and the advice is contadictory.

Those are 5mm offset wheels(ET5) i think all you can do is measure where you would like your wheel to sit, then see if maybe a 0 offset wheel and maybe 10-15mm spacer would be enough. As that would bring wheel out by 20mm

I have a set of spacers with the correct studs that lock into the spacer so they can't come loose think they are about 20-25mm thick. They were on my car when it had the x pack on. Pm me if yOur interested. Car looks spot on mate!

I had a couple of spare hours today so i made a little start.
I got it up on stands and took the wheels off to check the brakes etc.Its all good in there and another bonus is that the handbrake also has a cable still activating it.I have taken out the clevis pin from the actuator so that it just runs from the cable for now, just to keep things simple while i test it.
I have given it a steam clean underneath the wheel arches and the floor pan and its remarkable solid with no welding needed!
I am just going to schutz the underside to protect it.
I just need to address the wheel issue as i need tyres on the wheels that i have before i can test it,hopefully i should be able to address that shortly.

The interior, boot and underbonnet area have been brush painted with white dulux by the looks of it.
I want to tidy it up on a budget so i am open to suggestions of how to make it look tidy cheaply and easily.
I was thinking of maybe matt black?

I had 8inch wheels with 25mm spacers along with 205/60 tyres on mine and it looked perfect

Of course you need to fit longer studs

again with the interior,,I used gunmetal grey hammerite and it looked fine

there again you can always carpet it or gett rubber mat wide enough to fit in one piece
