  • Coming on very nicely! Are you leaving this steering wheel on Stu, or is the original going back on?

Cheers, I've already got a new ordinary alternator so will probably use that for the moment.

      cheers, Stu.

Cheers, that steering wheel is a temporary one & won't be staying, I have the original type steering wheel which is in need of restoration to go back on once its done.

        cheers, Stu.

        • Hi all, bit of an update, engine is back from the machine shop, rebore to +30, crank polished, unleaded seats done in the cylinder head. I've cleaned it up & gave it a repaint & new core plugs so its ready for rebuilding soon.

Also the original Sport steering wheel has arrived back from the trimmers, new black leather rim, the centre pad is original, I've just cleaned it up & I've also polished up the silver spokes & stripped & resprayed the black metal bits

          • Also fitted quarter light glass & drop glass & mechanisms in doors, the drop glass was deeply scratched & they wouldn't polish out so had to resort to buying new ones..

Booked a week off work this week & was hoping to get the headlining done but the trimmer said he's fully booked this month & can't do it for a while

So feeling a bit fed up today I thought I'd do it myself despite that I'd never fitted one before although I've watched them being done on my Cortina & blue Escort.

So after spending all day sweltering in this heat this is the result..

I'm really pleased how its turned out with no major disasters considering I've never done one before! There's a couple of ripples here & there but I can live with them, At least I can say I've done it myself & also saved myself 80 quid by not paying someone else to do it!

            thats it for now,

            Cheers, Stu.

                    • I do like the steering wheel Stu! Engine and headlining looks good too, have you tried to get the ripples out by carefully warming them up with a hair dryer? This is how we did it years ago!

                            • Looking over the first lot of images you have come so far, an epic build.

I noted you have no door lock on the passengers side, guess you're keeping it that way ?

My goodness, I used to keep my passenger door lock disconnected 35 years ago.....I guess it's an Escort Sport Mk1 thing again! I always used to think it was one door less that the low life could break into!
