I've put cibie iode halogen headlamps on as they're better than sealed beams & will also fit an alternator instead of the original dynamo so it will cope with the halogens a bit better.
Lovely job. I fitted these headlights to my MK1 Lotus Cortina and kept the dynamo and it never had any problems. Mind you I wasn't running any extra electricals , like a radio etc. Just a bog standard car.
Cheers! Yes I'm putting a few extras on but not going too mad as I want to keep it as fairly standard as I can.
The reversing lamps I'm
putting back as they've been on the car many years, I've put cibie iode halogen headlamps on as they're better than sealed beams & will also fit an alternator instead of the original dynamo so it will cope with the halogens a bit better. Will also fit a set of door mirrors.
The steering wheel I've got on it is temporary, the original I've sent away for the leather to be re-done
cheers, Stu.
Ha ha, you've nearly done everything that I did to my Daytona Sport, must be a Mk1 Sport owner thing! I fitted reverse lights (a must have), Lucas H4 Lights (prompted when someone backed into me and smacked my sealed beam, Mk2 drivers door mirror (I went to measure the door up on a Mk2 police van at the local station, got some funny looks ), stainless steel channel moulding. The sports wheels and alternator (had HRW as option) I already had factory fitted on mine! The extra bits I fitted to mine were, carpets, Capri spotlights for a while to supplement the H4's which were a bit narrow on the beam, and I fitted a dash trim off a later XL model, removed the fake wood fablon insert and painted it satin black.
Stu, did you get new foams for the inside of the heater box?
Yes I put new foams inside the heater box, a strip of sticky back foam came with the new heater matrix I bought off ebay, you can also buy it separately in a roll off ebay, I re-used the original white polystyrene packing that was in there though.
Bit more of an update, put heater unit, wiper mechanism and the dash loom in,
As its going to be running an alternator, I've taken the guts out of the regulator box & joined the wires inside so its used as a junction box for the alternator wiring & makes it look more original..
Still a way off yet I think, I still need to rebuild the engine although the machining work on that is now done, gearbox needs cleaning up, checking & repaint, got some wiring issues still to sort out, headlining needs to go in, interior needs sorting out & I need to buy a few bits for that...lots still to do but I'm hoping it will be back on the road by the end of summer, its been off the road since 1990!
