Mk1 Sport
Hey Stu and all the guys on this thread!
I posted previously saying i had a 1300 Sport as well and you might recall i mentioned i was having trouble with my laptop, well i have managed to get it functioning again to some point,so i am posting a few pictures of it as requested by Stu,it is not entirely finished...is it ever!
I would like to get coilovers for the front end as i would like it to sit a bit lower
a better rad and a fan, some twin 40s and a remote servo, also the interior needs some additional trim ie. kick panels and parcel shelves, this is despite having ordered two sets already and having lost them! The front seats could do with retrimming to.....I have just recently added the sport logo so i will post more pictures next week,i actually have four cds of restoration work but will just post a few random shots for now!001.jpg

In my opinion though, all the bits you are considering fitting to your car will no doubt improve your car and make it more interesting to you, but I have to say as one of those silly purists, that the car was originally built as a budget priced Mexico and the attraction these days are the cost cutting bits that where originally incuded with the car, such as rubber mats, basic dash with Rev Counter stuck on top, steel wheels, basic spec trim etc. Yes they also sat high too, but that was mainly due to the new larger 13" wheels it was shod with, but they made it recognisable and part of it's character, I liked that though as I could get underneath and fix things without jacking mine up many a time, ha ha! It's these features, to me that makes these cars so interesting now!
Having said that, it is you car and I respect you can do what you like with it, to make it your own, this is only my humble opinion. You may not have considered all this, but you do have a unique car sitting there, and one of the rarest version of Escorts too, so why change it to look like all the others?....again it's just my thoughts.
Cheers, Tim

modifications some thoughts
Hi Tim
Thanks for your comments,of course it is a rare car, though this is not reflected in the price, the mexicos and rs 2000s being more desirable.however that aside i
will give you my take on the subject.
I purchased the car in 1986 or 87,i can check this, but it was about that time.
The car was already 14 years old, though it was standard.
My brother at the time had a mk1 estate which he was modifying,he started by putting in a 1600 cc lump which he built himself to quite a good spec, then he decided to put a v6 essex lump in,so he donated the 1600 lump to me,how could i refuse?
It was an era where everyone was modifying there fords, and to be honest the 1300cc lump was not very appealing.Though i can appreciate a concourse car.i find them uninspiring at times, the 1300 sport looks pretty bland in to me in standard set up.It is quite difficult to explain but to my mind because of the
period at which i acquired the car a lot of people were modifying there cars i feel that in a certain way the car is of its time.
What i have tried to do is leave the interior and exterior as standard as possible apart from the stance. The old front seats unfortunately got lost.
Of course Fords were selling upgrades for the escorts even in those days and even though my upgrades are not genuine ford parts its in that spirit which
i do the mods.
The car is still a 1300 sport and will always be.Though if i had the finances
it would probably run a pinto. Its just to much fun to roar along the M25 with
my club in there escorts and hear those wonderful noises that our engines make!
Of course i see your point, but there will always be two views on the subject.
Im not saying mine is the correct one,but for the outlay i want performance!

Good news is we picked up the shell from the blasters today!
There's a few more holes revealed, mostly pinholes here & there & a few repairs & tidying to do but nothing too bad to sort out, also I've got to do a bit of etch priming on a few missed areas to do & hoover out the sand although most came out on the trailer journey home . Here's some pics I took earlier of how it looks now,
Cheers, Stu.
