Coming on nice mate LOL at the woodgrain repair! As much as it is a bodge though and shocks us, we have the bodgers to thank, because if they hadnt bodged these cars when they were worth sod all to keep them on the road, they would have been scrapped!!!!!!!
Cheers for the comments! Been cracking on with the sport,
cut all the rot out of the nearside strut top and flitch plate
then made new lip for bulkhead splash shield, welded on & weld-thru primed
put a new stiffener on this side & all given a coat of primer
also gave the heater bubble a trial fit after i repaired the bulkhead area, seems to fit ok
thats it for now
Nice work mate. Can I ask how you knew where exactly to fit the wing band without the bonnet on? As I'm soon to be doing mine
i measured the distance between the old wing rails (across the engine bay) along their length before cutting the old ones off (did one side at a time). Also measured & marked where original flitch panels were before removing them. I left as much of the original inner wing/rail on as i could when cutting old rail off & cleaned off paint & any surface rust, then clamped new rail on & re-measured distance between old & new rail to get the distance the same or as near as before, when i was happy with it i then welded wing rail on.
Hope that helps
