  • Seems I'm on the slippery slope now!

Well the search came to an end yesterday......i'm now a Mk2 RS2 owner again!
She's straight and there is very little rust - couple of patches under the floor - paint flaked not bubbling so i'm happy! But there is a shed load of little odds and sods to sort out - door pins, fits, boot lid alignment, d. door lock is tempremental bugger! Got a whiny release bearing as after the 150 miles home the clutch feels real notchy through the pedal, one wheel bearing needs a dose of looking at and after 10 odd years of sitting doing not an awful lot the brakes pull to the nearside! .......so hardly anything No doubt i'll find more as I go through it but its something that doesn't need to be done NOW, just as and when. I've got Zetec plans with my own fabricated EFI and Hayabusa TB's, 5 speeds already in there so that may need a freshen up and then the interior to get it less psuedo rally car more fast road tool. Updates won't be frequent but I may be tapping up the knowledgeable among you for tips or 'howja do dat mister' questions

Congrats on your purchase. That's half of the fun though isn't it, the fiddling with the cars... Are you sure you want to go the Zetec route? If you've got a fairly original, straight RS, I'd be loathed to stitch a Zetec into it in your position. It's your car though.

Really? Love to have some back history as last owner had it 12+ years from his recollection & old MOT's. Its obviously had work so i'd like to get as much as is possible! The colour is still bothering me Its Riviera Blue or Calypso Blue? but I can't remember it as a std colour option on the RS range?
Probably age and alcohol starting to show their effects now!

Yes it does look like an original colour, just that not many were sold in this colour in the first place.

So you got a nice rare looking car there. I would keep the pinto in it too
as you lose some of it's original character if you put a zetec in it! As said before, It's up to you though as it's your car!

                Parts Availability?

Simple question - whats Ford OEM parts availability like? Reason for asking as I come from the bike world where the Jap manufacturers like to stop producing parts after about 10 - 15 years! Some classic stuff keeps on coming but plastics and bodywork tends to stop first then the mechanicals tend to dry up. I know Cars are a bigger mass market but what is availability on things like locks (for example) like - don't want to get a list of stuff and go down to local stealer only to have the spotty oik give me a blank expression! Do we have favoured sources of un-obtainium?

Yes it's Riviera Blue and it was a rare colour.

If you PM me the registration number I will see if it is in the RSOC Registrar Files for you

                    Cheers

                      Instrument Restoration

Right - lugged out my RS2 instrument cluster yesterday to check bulbs and give a general clean up + adjust the needles as speedo was at rest vertically down!
Not suprisingly the foils are in a dreadfull state - don't suppose they are going to be available? Anyone know what purpose the voltage regulator has (don't say it regulates voltage!) and what its output voltage is......if its working?
If I can't get new foils, i'm going to remake the bulb seats with copper clad circuit board and hard wire the whole unit and if necessary replace the reg. with a chip for reliability - just need to know the voltage! Gauges all work when their senders are earthed out so shouldn't be to hard to do!

                        Bodywork recommendations

While I was rooting around mine yesterday i've come to the conclusion its had some surgery during the years and the panel fits aren't as good as they could be! Probably wings and certainly drivers door has been re-skinned and needs addressing! So without stepping on toes or trying to offend anyone - what companies get good recommendations in the Surrey / Berkshire / North Hants area. I want to complete the dry build on the Zetec conversion then get the shell worked over and re-install everything for the finish build.
So - lets have some names please via PM if you want?
