Was fine media blasting,,,but did cost a lot @£1800

The kit was stripped which was a lot of the cost as they take the paint off layer by layer back to the glassfibre.
A straight steel shell would less.

I can imagine doing the fibre glass was very time consuming.
The writing on the floor is interesting, shows how gentle the process is.
              How are the inner wings?

The writing on the floor is very good to see,,i've not seen this before.

Inner wings have the normal plates etc.
I'll get some more pictures up.

                  mk2.

Body kit needs to come off,

Needs bracing up to try keep the door gaps.
We tryed a pair of orignal doors in the holes first to see how it all fitted.(as doors on the car have had skins)
Its had sills it the past, but lucky for the car (and us) the top of the outer sill/door step is orignal and in the right place.

Next step is get it on the jig.

                        mk2.

We run a tape measure around the shell and soon found that it was not very straight.
Rear o/s chassis leg was bent and strut towers/inner wing tops were off centre.
So throught we better put it on a jig.
Its accurrate to the mm .
Throught we would see how true a never welded 4-door shell is we had kicking around the workshop.
To compare to the rs shell.

Wow, so there really is a way of telling if your (anyone's) shell's a genuine RS shell then. That there on page two is the part no. and build date of the shell one assumes. Amazing, acid etched by the looks of it
The next time you go to buy an RS, it's "I'll be back in a minute mate", then it's off to the bead blaster's

Yes thats right ,just a shame ford put it under primer/soundproofing/paint!!
Its only media blasting that will show it up.
Good to see!!!....And were saving a genuine shell.

I did have a sneaking feeling that there was something, as I've said somewhere else, the old Lotus Twin Cam Cortinas had (Lotus) marked in red under the parcel shelf. So I suspected that Ford would have "hidden" an indelible mark somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if the same no. turns up on several or all of the panels, esp. the tunnel (inside or outside) and front inners.

Just out of interest how accurate were the measurements on the 4door, i took some measurements on to origional never welded 4 doors last week and between the 2 cars there was 4-5mm difference in the spacings of the centre chassis leg sections leading me to believe they cant of been the accurate from the factory???
