Today, the retoration begins (again).

I recently bought this project from a member and have decided to strip it back to bare metal to see what condition the shell is in. It's going to be coated next week and then off to have the shell prepared and painted. It will be solid black as it was originally.

Plans are for the car to be a standard X pack with lots of Group 1 bits. Will keep it 4 speed and HT are going to do the engine.

First ever project so a lot to learn adn probable get wrong!

It was originally LHD and came to the UK in '86. It was converted then to RHD. It will stay RHD. Legend has it that it was supplied new from the Zakspeed dealership but I have nothing to verify that

Very possible that it came from Zakspeed. I'll tell you how I suspect it came to the UK, I very much suspect it was a squaddie's car. It was loads cheaper to buy them in Germany as there was no VAT and the cars came at reduced prices already.

I've heard loads of tales of squaddies buying RS1600s etc whilst on tours in Germany. It depends where the bloke was based, it is quite possible that it was delivered by an Eric Zakowski dealership, as he had a chain of Ford dealerships as far as I'm aware.
