      • You're doing a great job there and really cracking on with it. I hate to mention it.....but is that rear seat correct,it looks like a fishnet rear seat? My mex has one like that in it and I want to fit a roll top rear seat with equal spacing stitching like the fronts.

        • Thats an interesting point Wayne. There are people about with much greater knowledge than me, but what i would say is that i can't think why the back seat would of been changed?I have already posted a pic of the underside of the front seats with a date of july 1978.My car was registered in august 1978,so is a very late car and is on the cusp of when production changed to the later seats. It also has the orange needle clocks which are deemed as incorrect but i have every bit of documentation to back up the mileage of 70 odd thousand miles which are showing on the clock. As mentioned before this car has been laid up untouched since 1990 so has not been knocked and ****ed about with like so many others.I would interested in other peoples views on this?

          • You seats and mine might be correct, just had a look at another mex on here and that has the fishnet stitching in the rear seats too.

I thought it looked a bit odd when I bought the car and put it on my list of things to change I guess you live and learn.

            • Car looking lovely

There are quite a few Mexico's with the same rear seat. I think they may have changed possibly the same time as some of the other changes (i.e. badging etc..) so will tend to be the later registered ones. I have also seen other Mexico's with orange needle's but they have all been on a T plate, so Im sure yours will be the original dash & correct.

Looking forward to seeing the car out

                  • Things got quite exciting this evening as the engine and gearbox were refitted.I decided to take the advice of forum members and fit the complete unit from underneath.A good friend of mine offered to help and we used his commercial vehicle transmission jack. This is a great piece of kit as along with being able to lift, you can also adjust the angle of the table front to rear and side to side.
I fitted the speedo cable as well as the clutch cable before putting the lump up.

We got the body as high up in the air as possible to give enough clearance. We needed 88cm to get slide it under.

The engine and box safely fitted with no damage and the bonnett left in place.I really was worried about doing this so its a load off my mind.

On a slightly sour note my pc has crashed and i have lost every pic i have ever had.
Not only all the reference pics for this car but my bikes and most importantly the pics of my 6 year old son from birth to now.
                    Gutted!!!and no i didn't back them up...yep..what a pillock!
