I noticed a small fuel leak from under the carb when i started it the other day.The leak was coming from the accelerator pump diaphragm which had hardened and had made the car develop a little stutter when you revved from idle.
I bought a genuine weber service kit and fitted it yesterday and it now runs better than previously even though i thought it was good then!
Whilst i was in there i checked all the rubber fuel and vac lines to check for deterioration, fortunately all is good so i just need throw a polishing cloth over it and its ready for the lakes tour!

So yesterday I actually taxed the car and put a couple of pints of juice in to get me to tesco.
I estimated wrong and only had enough petrol to get me halfway to Tesco!
A nice brisk walk and had to buy another plastic can...hows that for nostalgia?.. The last time I ran out of petrol 25 years ago was in an Escort. ......
All ready for the lakes now!

In recent times I have thought about parting with the Mex, mostly due to guilt from lack of use..The truth is I just love owning it and when I go into the garage and lift up the cover my eyes light up! ..for that reason I think its got to stay..
A couple of pics from a rare rideout from a couple of weeks back.

Don't worry about guilt of lack of use. Mines been off the road for past two years. I just have other things going on and it will have to wait. When I go have a look at it in the garage, I'm glad I own one too. I've owned an RS since 1979, so I'm very used to having one around, but sometimes it's good to have a break from them though. I'm looking forward to getting it back on the road again now, but only when I'm ready! As they say, "absence makes the heart grow fonder"!

Great to see it out and about Adrian, having attended a few shows with you the car and person really are a great partnership.. Don't think you'd be to happy to part with it...
Hopefully I'll be all set for next years lakes and both of them get a run- if the minis don't jump the queuesigpic
