Got the new RS home on Friday evening, drove 200 miles in it and it just felt perfect.
I got numerous doots, thumbs up and waves from different cars and vans as I was coming back home, it really made my day.
It has had 2 owners in England, 1 in Ireland, 1st reg Jan 1980, currently 50,700 miles all verified and backed up with a lever arch folder full of everything including the original bill of sale, even the original £1000 deposit receipt, all correspondence from the dealer, servicing, parts, MOT,s tax discs, RSOC letters, insurance valuations, photos, all original handbooks.... everything !!!
Its completely standard, I've a few things I want to do to it to have it sitting perfect. It has a small crack on the bottom of the windscreen, drivers side inner headlight is cracked and a small rust bubble on the very bottom of the passenger side rear arch. Other than that bodywork is near perfect, interior is perfect, boot is like new, rims have been refurbed and are perfect, engine bay will clean up nicely .
Spent a part of Saturday sorting out some lighting (or lack of) issues. I had 1 working side light, and 1 working headlight sometimes. After checking the bulbs I found one was blown and one had a bad connection, then the fuses, relay and earths were checked, eventually I had NO working headlights and NO working electricals inside the car.
I checked each fuse again and some of them were that old that even after a clean they were not making a proper connection, so after 7 new fuses and 1 new bulb all is working happily.
Plans so far.....
Fit a new exhaust, possibly stainless.
Fit a new windscreen
Fit a new inner headlight
Start cleaning underneath to remove any loose underbody sealant, treat with POR 15 and the seal again.
Paint axle, springs etc
Engine bay tidy up, paint rocker cover etc
Repair small rust bubble on rear lower arch.
Carry out a full paintwork correction to remove any slight scratches, swirls and oxidised paint.
Get it back on UK reg plates.
Drive it and enjoy it.
A few pics taken after its first wash.
