Been spending most of my available time sanding the shell back to bare metal, but did get time today to weld up the holes in the dash so that I have a blank canvass to work from when I start to rebuild.
Having bought a new set of rear arches from Rally Weld, I got time today to drill the rivet fixing holes. I Recently bought some airframe skin pins off Ebay and they make this job so much easier, would certainly recommend for what they cost.
Next job is to prime the body and arch fixing flange, countersink, rivet and layer of filler.
Rear arches now countersunk riveted and a skim of filler to hide the rivet heads. I've also filled all the imperfections in both quarter panels ready for zinc primer.
Thanks, I've still got some welding to do for the gearbox crossmember and sumpguard mounts, then it's more zinc and primer, and that's just the bare shell...!!!!
I bought a sump guard from Sean at Rally Weld, and as I had a day off work today I got time to weld in the fixing brackets to the chassis rails. First job was to fit the front brackets and support bars so that I could tack the welded brackets.

Do you know what counter sink drill bit you used when doing the holes for the rivets please?
Just measure your rivet head and increase the diameter a little bit if your filling in. I left my heads flush and showing so just counter sunk the same size as the rivet head. For the counter sinking I whacked the drill bit into a file handle and did them all by hand.

Sorry not sure of the size, I just used what I had in my drill box. Don't do what I did and countersink the holes with the arches off the car, the countersink tends to wander and when the arch is refitted to the quarter some of the pre drilled holes no longer line up. Keep it on the quarter panel using as many skin pins or screws and countersink one at a time then rivet before moving onto the next.
Make sure you drill the holes in the arch smaller than the rivet as the countersink also opens up the hole, it's easier to run a drill back through the hole if the rivet is tight.
