      • I decided to weld up the holes in the heater bubble, then welded the bubble to the bulkhead. Finished off with filler to clean up the plug welds after grinding, and more filler to to the bubble itself, still needs final finishing with high build primer, but this can wait until the final bodywork stages.

Cheers, it's taken a while to understand welding but adjusting the current settings for different welds makes a big difference.

Yes I had his last bubble!!!! wasn't perfect, but what do you expect for a 30 yr old piece of metal, and cheaper than an express panel one.

            • I haven't had the time, or the money!! to do much on the shell, so I've just done the 1st stage of filler to cover the spoiler rivets. Hope to get a new roll cage after the summer holidays as this is the next phase of welding.

                  • I've not really touched the shell since returning from my Holiday back in August, the longer I left it the harder it became to get motivated, but after spectating on the Wyedean Rally my MOJO is back with a vengance..!!!!!

I've just finished off the firewall mounting plates ready for the shell to be transported to Rally Weld next Month, Sean is going to fit a Safety Devices bolt in cage, gearbox mounting brackets, sump guard mounting brackets and anything else that I have missed or is not up to a good standard.

I will then spend the Summer months concentrating on the bodywork and getting it ready for paint.

                    • Roll cage arrived Yesterday from West Wales Rally Spares. Just waiting for Sean at Rally Weld to collect the shell next Month and fit it.

It's taken 2 Yrs to get it to this stage, thought it would be finished by now...!!!!!!

                      • Started on the doors, one is original but has rusted away at the bottom of the inside panel and there are few rust holes through the door skin lower panel.

The other door has had a new skin at some time and although the lower inside panel is solid, the skin has some rot in one of the lower corners.

I stripped both doors of paint, welded up the rust holes and cut away the rot ready for a new patch panel. I also cut off the corner brackets welded on to hold the poly windows.

                        • Bit more welding and patching done on the doors today. Just need to fabricate a strip of metal and weld it to one of the doors.

                          • Coming on nicely, keep up the good work.

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

                            • I planned to finish off the bottom of the door today but run out of weld wire halfway through the repair. Oh well, it was freezing in the garage anyway..!!!!

I want to try using 0.8mm wire instead of the 0.6mm I've been using so far, I'll be working in Cheltenham on Monday so will call into Cheltenham Welding Supplies.

Anybody else using 0.8mm for this type of welding ? What's it like for panel repairs ??
