ive been on holiday so ive managed to get some work done (not much i might ad) to the mex.
i thought i had finished all the welding but when i started to scrub the floor with panel wipe to get rid of any waxoil residue with a toothbrush and scotchbright pads i found a couple of rusty bits on one chassis leg and in the outer tank well that id missed so i cut them out and welded in new metal.
after that i etch primed any bare metal, finished wiping down the floor and then lightly stone chipped the whole floor and inner wings.
ive also been making a list of bits i need to get for the rebuild - full poly bush kit, brake and fuel pipe clips, window rubbers and door and boot seals.
heres the pics
i'll leave it all to harden properly now for a few days then ill get ready to paint the whole floor...............its getting there!!
Nice update, my friend has one of those 16v gte shells in his garage, was bought from sheerwoods of Darlington a very long time ago for the pricely sum of Ł340. It sat sheeted up in a lock up all those year till he had a phone call, he ended up buying it and a complete 16v gte bit ropey here and there for Ł1000.......a gift IMHO. Keep up the good work on the mex will be following your progress
Well its been a long time since I last posted on this thread but that doesn't mean the mex has been sat doing nothing.
Its now in the very capable hands of Andy gemmell who has gone over the rest of the shell for me and replaced both rear arches as I wasn't happy with a previous body shop repair on one side and the other had a jaggy lip which annoyed me!
Andy's now at the painting stage, pics will be uploaded soon or anyone who knows me on Facebook might see a sneaky pic..........I'm getting excited the shells nearly finished....is that weird?? Lol
heres a few more pics.
the dark stuff on the floor is a thin coat of upol raptor spray sealer to help protect it from our ever increasingly crappy roads
