  • Thanks guys it was a brilliant trip and i think we shall all be going again next year too!

Change of plan now though. Basically i'm going to spend 2k on the engine and just get under the bonnet paited the final colour whilst the engine is out. Then i'm goin to get hold of a local graffite artist my brother knows and let him spray the van untill i have the cash for the spray job.

Well i had her back saturday afternoon around 4 oclock but she only went in the garage tuesday.

So i started the strip down on tuesday night i'll let the pictures do the talkin from here on!

Head is scrap as i have done in 6 valves

    Pistons all in different places

    Cylinder no 1

    Cylinder no 4

    Holes in the block

Big end cap that caused one of them holes found on top of the hole it made in the block

    Whats left of the sump

And my new engine building table

Wellthats the only update i ha e for now as i need to start doing some overtime to pay for all the forged goodies i'm stuffing in the new lump.

    • Well i haven't updated this recently but i have been busy with it!
Basically i stripped down the new lump for a freshen up consisting of
      Head gasket+bolts
A 16 thou skim off the head
      ARP rod bolts
      Sump mods
Rs2k cams and a new cam pulley :0
and a good clean out as it was manking.

      Filthy

      Head off and cleaned

      Head skimmed

      Fitting the rod bolts

      ARP'd up!

Balancer shafts out trick bits in

      Nice and clean too!

      Mid sump modding

Most of the mess from the other engine

The old cam pulley!!! The timing may not have skipped but the timing pulley took a hammering!

      Servicing/rebuilding parts

      Head on and torqued down

      New crank seal this time!

Chain timed up and the rs2k cams in place

After a massive struggle the engine went in

And finally we got the engine running today before it cut out as there seams to be a loose wire somewhere stopping the engine running? It's really intermitant which is going to be annoying to find. So thats tomorrows task!

      • Just read through your thread and a damn fine read it is!
Cool wheels. Interesting engine. The original blue with the matt stripes sounds good also. Fair feckin play to ya

        • I've never seen an I4 motor let go like that before!I had one in my series2 rs turbo a few years ago it was a good motor and wiring was basic.
Have u used a 2.3 galaxy bottom end or the standard rs2k motor?

          • Thanks for the possitive comments guys it's great to hear possitive comments when you pour so much time and effort into something. I just have to sort out all my projects now as the mrs capri is coming back from the paint shop soon and i have just bought a mk1 escort shell so it looks like the van will never get any paint and a big stinking turbo derv lump for towing the 'rally' car about. Or i might just paint the car and the van the same colour (la mans green!!!) both with 2.3 engines in lol.

            • also forgot the mension that i went to retro rides gathering at prescott hill on the 19th of august and i must say it is by far the best car show i have ever attended.

Also before you think my gearbox is broken i had borrowed a straight cut box because i thought mine was ill.
My run up the hill any way

              • The not so good times

Whist marshalling for the wales rally gb i smashed the van into an unseen/hidden drainage ditch at around 40 mph and smashed up all the rad the thermostat housing and bent te front pannel. The damage is mainly the rad/rad mounts and the front pannel. But i think that is the end for the vN for a while i think she is going to lie in a barn whilst i build up the mrs capri and start welding up my mk1 escort shell. Sad times for the trusty steed.

All this happened after my tyre came of the rim mid drift at 5 in the morning.
