  • Pics of Colin McRae’s Replica Red Mk2 Escort from Ireland

    Hello and Some Pics finally,

I hope you Enjoy the Journey with me cause it was along road but worth every bit of it.

I did not set to build an exact copy of his car, that would require an unlimited budget. And I have to date spent I have spent the price of a nice wee house. The Colin Mc Rae’s car was his design and should say unique to his name but I would take many parts/ideas from it and use the best ideas that I learned from the best Irish Championship winning Modified Escorts along with personal Ideas.

An Escort build and set up for the unique demanding Irish tarmac . The World Rally found out first hand of how unique it is.

That’s not to say when it finished it will be very similar looking ,it will have many have components and features made by the people who worked on and built Colin’s car , like DJM Dave Plant and and othes .It will really look like it and have many similar components as it is Colin's Car overall. That the aim.

My MK2 will be Rallied competitively as I can and not just a show car.

    ------------------------------------------------

Didnt Think I get an Irish reg from 1978 MK2 with 101 WRC .
The BEST REGISTRATION for a modified mk2 Escort like Colins MC Rae with his name on it has to have. Just What Colin Mc Rea was the Best WRC World Rally Champion of all time .

All these Photo's are a year and a half old,

These shot taken after fabrication and just before been sent to have paint Blasted off and then sealed. They are the only ones I could easily get and put up here quickly.
    --------------------------------------------

When I got the car 2 years ago she was never painted from new, faded brown/white colour and after Fabriction I spent 3 hour and Spun the paint up with Machine Polisher. Turned out like new.

You have just Got respect and love the wide and low Back end. Repect

Extra wide 15" Tramac arches, modifed by TIG ing the top lip to underneath the arch and then bolted arch to quarter panel. like the Group 4 mk2 but not really .

Powered by Dreams, Standard S2ooo Honda 260bhp, 175bl/torque after Jennvey Trottle bodies and Remapped. All work by Race Engine Design / John Betty.

And I put in more Roll Cage Bars after these pic s Same as WRC Focus Cage now.
Not that I think I might have an off but better with extra.

Custom Cage TIG welded and added many extra cage Bars. Looks second hand , but Brand new it cause painted white but it was painted out of car before install to get top of all bars properally painted. Its very hard to spray the top of bars when installed and so close to roof.

Central Controll. Scary place at times.

Steering Column is extented Same a Colins car to allow te seat to be move as far back as poss, iMiddle of the car as well as Nav seat.better weight balance

Once more from the Top, you got to love them Arches.

Quick Release steering wheel Boss (Removable Steering as My seat is mid mounted in car and seering need off to get out, All Parts same manufacture as Colins car) O nearly forgot £3 Grands of Paddle Gear Shift behind steering wheel.

Dave Plant Suplied Alloy Floor mounted Pedal Box and Vertical Carbon fibre Hydraulic hand Break as was in Colin Mc Raes car. But My legs are too long and I have to cut the pedal box up and and lower it by 2". Or cut abit of my legs . No prop , keep legs cut and modify pedal box.

Steer from the REAR the only way to Rally.

I have many more Pics to sort Pics into order (hundreds).
From the start. 1) The car as bought, through each and every step to date.

And Cannot wait for her first Rally.

I will be unable to make replies to the Tread just now .
Due to the a resent Serious Family Tragedy and now I am sick with Flu.
    Just see how it goes.

But when get up and running again . I will reply to any question or comments.

You mite be sorry you asked for Pics , I have everything wee detail thats done to the car. Too many maybe!

Thank you for taking the time to look at her so far.

    Brendan

Hope your on the mend soon. Sounds like a tought time.

The car is obviously something you are very passionate about..........................................
...........up to the point were that cage comes in!!
You can't have a cage like that and not test it out.
Lend her to Hetherington for a rally

Can't wait to see her in the flesh.

      Good luck.
