  • Silver Harrier

Thought I'd post the story so far, especially now the last of the Mexico's I had have now gone.

A mate of mine, Dave, had the Harrier for around 11 years, slowly doing it up with a couple of friends. He was involved with the Black Country branch of the Sporting Escorts group - I'd met the group on one of those Classic Car tours French trips way back in about 1993 when I had the 3 litre Mk1 Capri, we'd been friends since.

Roll forward to late 2006, Dave comes round and said he'd never be able to finish it - would I be interested. Come round and have a look...

Yep - on it's side in his garage after having the floor stripped and sorted out where it needed.

Paid the man, and 3 months later get the car home and on it's wheels to have a better looky. And a wash.

Front end was built up with genuine Ford wings and front panel already, replaced the bonnet with a better one off a silver Ghia I broke up a few years back.

Back end needed some more work, but the worst had been done before Dave had even bought the car years previously.

Interior was ok ish, seats still need trimming, but it's all there. Steering wheel well worn and replaced.

Replaced the passenger door, driver's side ok.

This is outside the bodyshop waiting for prep. Needed driver's side arch replacing which was done.

In primer coat after the body repairs

Boot floor had both wells replaced previously and not finished

    More to follow......

        Paint......

Painted with Isopac and 2 pack lacquer, in the booth with metallic base coat on....

        Looking better...

Just out of the oven and still hot!!

        Boot floor looking much better:

And underbonnet - wish my cars stayed this clean!

Ready for glazing and fitting up - did this in the usual spot outside the house.

Last of my NOS stuff going on it, bumpers, lights and all brackets.

Door gaps, satin black window surrounds and spoiler on.

Looking much better, but the wheels have to go... let them go with the project Mexico shell before Xmas.

Nearly there, wheels thanks to Neil Topaz...

Still after some better spots - these are chrome Sport ones etch primed and enamelled satin black, close, but not quite right. So still on the lookout for some.

No engine or trim in there yet, and the body still needs mopping and striping up. Job for the summer this year.

Underbonnet fitted out - the bulkhead pad thanks to Paul Tamplin.

Cheers guys - image heavy or what!

Cheers for the edit Lee, my copy and pasting isn't so good....

                Engine build now....

Balanced Nitrided crank, double dowelled and lightened flywheel, new oil pump, HP cam chain kit, 1300 pistons on a 40 thou overbore - T15 block -so didn't want to risk porosity.

Some balanced rods in there too...

Stage 1 head from the rally car back in the mid '80's and a classic BCF2 cam kit, old but lots of character hopefully! Dowelled and matched head to inlet manifold.

Bosch electronic dissy and built up and painted ready to go in - maybe a job over Easter - unless I'm made redundant before then!

Plonked a 32/36 Weber on it - should be ok for 100 brake or so. Anything more's a bonus!

Will update when I've done a bit more..... there's just over a year's work there so far - the paintshop pics were from Feb last year. Just waiting for the painter to come over and mop it!!!!

I loveflat front Mk2's and the Harrier has always been a favourite a real Mk1 Mexico with a face lift

                            It looks the dogs danglies.

I would remove some pictures at it gives the location away. I am sure theives are clever enough to scan these sites looking for location clues. Shame they aint clever enough to get a real job and stop being total scum bags
