ye ive looked into doing the gearbox first, and then doing the engine at a later date, as its a daily driver, and i cant really afford it off the road for too long. is there anything else apart from xmember, bellhousing, and sump that ill need?

Easiest swop is a 1600 crossflow. Exactly the same as your 1300 just 1 inch taller. Everthing else the same except maybe the exhaust manifold. You can even run about in it pretending it's still a 1300 if your totally dishonest, Not that I would condone such actions of course as your insurance would be invalid if you had a bump .

crossflows all well and good, but i want to go something a little bigger, and something a little more modern etc. i dont want to start an arguement about pinto vs crossflow, but personal preference is to go pinto, as i worked at a berakers for a few years, and it was common knowledge that the pinto was one of the most reliable engines ever made.
