  • Ruddys Resto Corner 'Again'

    Gents,
sitting at work today I decided to take half a days leave , go and buy a new grinder (wife removed last one) and have a play with the RS.
The inners had suffered from previous MOT patching of the usual style , large repair plate bolted by the three studs and mig welded around the edges , therfore at time of purchase no chassis number was present on the strut top. This did not concern me as all the other plates are present and correct and I have known of the car since year dot.
Anyway ten minutes with the grinder and see pics for result , I also took off the bulkhead soundproof for the first time ever I would say , how brittle was it......very , how many bits is it in now , several ...doh !!
Bulkhead is spot on except for a bit of rot around the drain hole in the bulkhead bulge. So far I am not too concerned with the findings but I bet theres a lot more waiting to go boo ...........

That top plate will go again with a bit of careful spot weld drilling, an under wing cup and a wing top from Expressed panels and away you go.

I've got a pair of pattern RS outer wings if you need them Paul, £160 the pair ( there's no profit in that for me btw - that's what they owe me)

Looking reasonable for the money, are you going for a complete bare shell sandblast job to find all the hidden nasties or just a tidy up of what you can see now ?
        Cheers Rob.

            Rob,
going for a full job , might as well just do it right first time . Was thinking of using full length inner tops from ex-pressed as the bottom of the original inner isn't too bad. From further prodding today I am not looking forward to whats left under the carpet ie floor . But I should know by now what Escorts are like and I do keep coming back to them.
Might take you up on the outers if I can't find a genuine pair at the correct money. Will probably need the holy grail as well , a good pair of doors ....now didn't I sell someone a pair of these last year .

Paul, if you need to replace floor pans I can recommend the expressed panels full length floors - they are a lovely fit - all the way from the bulkhead join to the back seat strengthener - they have all of the inner sill as part of them too. Cut the floors out completely and weld nice shiney new rust free in

The full length top plates are nice too - I have a nearside that I picked up cheaply "In stock" just in case !

The under wing kits - spring pans and strut turret sides are available from Hadrian - about £20 or so a side, and if you need new strut top re-inforcers - can I suggest "The Custom" as he does them with the stamped in chassis numbers.

The doors you sold to me and Andy are now on two different cars - the nearside is on his Cossied Mk2, and the o/s is on my red one !

Nothing goes to waste down these here parts
                Cheers Rob.
