                  • Hi - just read your thread through from the start, Excellent work, well done.
A big brave move to cut the front end off like that, I was considering doing the same thing with an RS2000 I have but was trying to keep the car as original as possible. Having read your thread I think I will use the same route now.

I genuinely think the overall standard of this job is outstanding when you consider the amount of work that has gone into it. I can understand cutting the front end off and making it a rally car, but to make it a concours car...... amazing.

You should be very proud of yourself.

                    • Forgot to add, the brown interior really compliments the rest of the car. Most people seem to lean towards changing brown for black, its great to see the brown left in there.

                          Hi Foxy,
was hoping nobody would ask that one.. I don't really know . It was on the car when I started. the front pipes were the original ones as the steel under that rubber was shiny 'yellow chromate' finish, not like any replacement 'silver' steel.
It is just rubber tube same as the little pieces under the clips along the chassis rail. I thought maybe it was meant to be under the single clip on the bulkhead and slipped down but have seen it the same on other original cars too.
The starter lead is the only thing could rub off it there

maybe some of the concours boys can help us.

                          Robert

                            Hi Class,
Dont know if brave or stupid. I knew how bad the car was before I started but only intended doing a patch up job. It was only after I got it and went on these forums and saw some of the concours restorations that I thought I'd go a step further. it snowballed and emptied my pockets from there.
it would have been a lot cheaper to re-shell.
I'm sure some would call it 'tiggers broom' but I'm happier to have re-build the original car. Its very well sealed & protected now so should see me out

This rubber piece was also on my RS2000 1115DI. I have some original photos (not digital) of it before I stripped the car. I think it was to provide extra protection where the starter lead passed over the brake pipe, if it shorted out you probably would end up with no front brakes.
                              Thanks Paul.

                              • 3 years later - Got her back on the ground tonight. Having got used to it up in the air for 3 years I had forgotten how small and low they are
Had the engine started & running last week, going to take it to a guy with a rolling road to set up the carbs properly etc.
Still a few little things to do -tracking, adjust lights etc.
                                few pics:
