i finally managed to drag my a$$ into the garage to do some more work on the old mk1.
as usual what started off as a little hole about 3 inch square got bigger and bigger

im getting sick of finding other peoples shady repairs on this car

can you believe the roll cage and seat belt bolts were mounted to an unwelded inner sill/floor panel and the inner sill to chassis leg was "repaired" with a thin bit of stainless and it was screwed in place then all covered in seam sealer and fibre glass!

not anymore though, heres some pics

heres what it might look like one day if i get finished, this is in this months classic ford mag

Nice 1 David! Love the look of that Daytona yellow mk1 too
Are you plannin on fabbing slightly bigger rear arches like that 1?....good Idea right enough if your not goin down the narrower axle route
Look forward to seeing this 1 out and about

thanks craig, im not doing any bodywork on it im just leaving that part for another day/year so it will be about with rusty spots and bubbles for a while.
it will just have a set of rs 4's on it to keep things nice and simple.

small update this is saturdays work

i finally got motivated this morning to do some work on the mk1. so after id done todays mot's at work i got onto it.

i had to remove the roll cage again after marking the positions to weld in the other 3 roll cage mounting plates and then weld a small ish hole and a crack on the drivers floor.
then its was clean up time on the floor inside and out so i could start undersealing and painting.
i forgot to take pics of the welding but got some of the floor after its been painted with zinc primer inside.

and just as i was tidying up brian came in to make up another tube for his roll cage.

i thought since today was such a nice and warm day (for once) id better get my back side into town and paint the inside floor so it will be dry for getting it out the garage in the morning.

while painting i realised that id forgotten to re weld the rear seat back/bulkhead panel at the bottom as some one had started to remove it for some reason, that will be the next job.

i was workin on the mk1 friday night and all day saturday. the motivations come back again since the finishing lines in sight

on friday night i built up the roll cage in the garage and gave it a rub with some sand paper before giving it a coat of top quality smootherite in silver just to tidy it up.
then i ripped out what was left of the headlining, painted the rear bulkhead/parcial shelf gloss black and masked up the windows and sprayed the roof skin satin black. ANYBODY WANT 2 REAR HEADLINING BAR THINGYS??

saturday i had the help of my mate allan ( green boy ) to sort the electrics ( well i was more like his apprentice! ).
we had to untape most of the wiring loom in the engine bay as its been bodged to convert from crossflow to pinto with lots of bad conections, exposed cut wires and lots of tape every where else. i knew it wasnt very safe so it was better to get allan in to check it as hes way better and faster with electrics than me.
with quite a few wires checked, cut out and replaced things like break lights and indicators are starting to work again and it even runs better! but we still have some wires behind the dash to check as allan found one that was burnt through

after allan went home i put on the rear interior 1/4 panels and sat the roll cage in ready for me to bolt it down next week.

heres some pics of the weekends work

the cage after a quick paint

green boy doing his favourite pastime of chopping out wires

this is what was removed!
