  • MK1 RS1600 Service shell Rebuild

Been asked to restore a bd for a good friend, I am at a bit of a loose end so i thought why not... Its in a bad way but owner has most parts and is very keen for a good job. Love a challange and i think this baby is going to give me that .

Bit of History on car ,,,,,, Built in 1974 from a AVO supplied RS1600 service shell , number 312 . Supplied with factory Big wings and rear turret conversion. Also on closer inspection shell is seam welded but only on chassis rails and not on wing tops etc.

Could this be a works shell ?? ,am not up to speed ! all my time in past has been on factory cars and concours.... know a famous works car on service shell 314.. I personaly think first owner has gone into ford to buy a service shell and has been offered this , maybee same price or a few quid more , well it was 1974 . plus avo was closing its doors, end of a era .... Loads of strange fitments on shell like twin steering colum outlet holes on lower bulkhead , any help from you guys out there,,,,,, and there is some very clued up people on this bb would be a massive help

    A few pics
    Before resto work

                    Thanks for comments

Tis a special shell , just wish i could piece together why it was supplied with factory big wings, rear turrets and seam welding !!!!!! In its day options like those to be carried out at avo would have cost an earth

Unable to trace first owner who purchesed shell from ford as he would have had the answers .

Would love to find out info as it would assist on restoration, for now i will duplicate all detail onto new replaced panels etc.

Any help would be apperciated by owner and myself

Will post more pics soon , as well on with project, tis a bit of a rusty story tho

First job was removal of N/S Front chassis rail. Its in a bad way, rotted right through at front of leg. Was A bit of a Xastard to get out due to seam welds.

                      Seam welds

                      The past its best leg

Nice new ford leg in place , tacked only as inner is to change and i need to align everthing before fully welding

Front crossmember changed at same time and everything aligned up

                      Regards Charlie
