Hopefully it won't be listed as an rs2000 as some people out there don't know the difference

        Thought Australian cars were RHD?
How do you mean 'wasn't ever stolen in the first place'?
        Must be missing something ...

Has he painted the car again? In the recovery pic it has black wings and front panel.

                  • Mike,
Whats going on mate, you have been caught out hook line and sinker. ITS NOT A RS 2000, so why you trying to sell it has one. As Leon stated Aussie cars are RHD. If it was me selling the car and it was straight I would be going out my way to prove them all wrong. One thing you have to remember, there are all of gents on here who have been on the RS sence for a very long time and they know the ins and outs of all cars. I feel for you mate, but only if alls genuine if not then you should be hung out to dry

                    Rant over

I think that one went over your head. It's a joke.

The black paint rubbed off with a cloth. It was some kind of concealer just to hide the identity of the car. They obviously didn't want to damage the paintwork as they were hoping to sell the shell when all of the heat around the car went down.

Haha Andy, I think you missed the joke. My shell/RS2000 Mk2 isn't an Australian car. It's just one of the dozens of silly accusations that people on this forum have said without any justification. I've heard so many contradictory statements from people that are all self proclaimed experts. When I've invited them all down to come check out the car in person (as all of them are basing their ideas purely off photos) they've all backed down.

You say you'd be going out of your way to prove them all wrong. There's a forum full of bullies on here that all say different things. I've tried to prove them wrong by inviting them but they have no interest. Everything is genuine and I've not done anything wrong. The things I've heard on here are hilariously imaginative.

                        • Mike i wouldn't take some of the comments on here to heart.
Sadly your car has had a dubious past on this forum. Before you bought the car, it had had a number of postings on here with regards to the validity of the identity.I believe the car was viewed by someone on here with a good knowledge of mk2 escorts. His opinion at that time was that it was a 4 door model, modified into a 2 door model.
There are also a couple of other ambiguities with the shell such as the auto tunnel box and the wrong year suspension tops. All these would make a knowledgeable escort owner walk away from purchasing the car as they would be looking to buy a genuine example of the mark.
I'm not sure what your level of expertise is with the mark, nor mechanically. It seems your talents lie within the more modern world of IT and media.
When the car was being advertised prior to your purchase it did look very good from the pictures.I can understand a purchase being made on the basis of these pictures and the detailed history probably given to you buy the seller.
The issue for a number of people on this forum is that the car represents something that it may or may not be. They probably feel that someone else is likely to be in the same position your are now if they buy the car. That is in having to defend the identity of the car.
The fact that the car was stolen has obviously caused a further stirring of emotion
It could also cause further complications with regard to the identity, as the only identifiable parts left of the car was the body shell with its stamped VIN number.(genuine or not for the benefit of the discussion ) DVLA require a number of identifiable parts of a car for it to retain its registration number. If it fails to meet this the car would be allocated a Q plate. During the 1990's a large number of cars were stolen and had there identities removed. When they were recovered they all went onto Q plates. Points are awarded during examination for items such as VIN number(unaltered) engine number, gearbox number axle number etc etc.If a car failed to meet the required number of points following examination. It would be given a Q plate.
If you car were to be examined in accordance with a VIC check, all that remains of the original XEM car is the body shell with the VIN number. I don't believe the car would score sufficient points to retain its identity.
                          Just some constructive discussion points.

                          • when the car was for sale by a previous owner i asked for extra pictures and could see that it was not an rs2000 shell.when i pointed out the things that were wrong the guy got angry and said i didnt know what i was talking about.funnily enough when it was for sale again some bits had been modified and changed

                            • Don't worry Mike, there's lots of owners on here that believe that they have RS2000's, Mexicos and RS1800's because that's what it says on the logbook ...

The difference is people talk about them behind their back instead , not on an open forum.

It wouldn't surprise me if someone off here bought this shell and it emerges with a new identity from someone's top drawer , then all its past history is lost.

The same people slagging you will be patting the new owner on the back.
