Im sorry the guy has lost his car but to leave it behind a plate glass window in full view with no other security is asking for trouble. Far far too easy to steal.

I would very much doubt that it has an "agreed" valuation at the reported value.
The fact that it is so far removed from a standard genuine Mexico, will restrict the upper limit of value in my opinion. We all know that we need to provide all the information of work carried out on our vehicles together with photographs of the car from various angles. From this the insurer by way of an underwriter will agree a value on the car.In most cases this value is what the owner places on it,using to some extent, sensible current market value and trends. However most of us that have carried out full restorations on our cars will still be in negative equity given the number of hours spent doing the work.
The second issue would be the modifications he has done to the car. Insurers are always looking for a way to avoid paying out on claims.I would imagine that someone from the his insurers loss adjustment dept are already going through the list of his declared mods on the proposal form, to those listed on various internet sites including his for sale listings.
If it was stolen to order,it will almost impossible to pass of as a "ringer" with an ebay log book due to its individuality. In which case it is merely a parts car now.Time will tell i suppose.
