i agree with the man some people donnt care as long as they get what they were looking for and as said before how do you if you bought stolen parts for most parts its impossible to tell

        • not having a dig at any of the rally boys but chances are it might have been stolen to order for competing in next years historic rally championship.

Hope its not the case and the car is still in one piece hidden somewhere waiting to be found.

I know nothing about rally cars but I know where all the parts are sourced from years ago and it's still going on today that's used in Motorsport are you in denial that this goes on john ?

                      • Thieving goes on everywhere! And like it or not it seems rife in Ford circles, but it has always been the same, even going back the the 70's & 80's.

And now they are rare and actually worth something the scumbags are at it more than ever! And because of the "rare" bit there are plenty of people out there who either don't give a shit where parts come from, have an inkling or buy in good faith.

So no matter what walk of life you come from, you stand a good chance of intentionally or inadvertently of buying stolen goods.

And with road and show cars too, there is a criminal element involved with most things, you being in the 'Motortrade' will be well aware of this.
The historic rally community is quite small and close knit so if this kind thing is going on it would become common knownledge very quickly.

Rubbish, might have been the case in 1975 to 85 but not now.

                            Take a standard RS1800 and take a look at the bits you would don't need for a rally car;

Interior seats & trim - don't need it, FIA seats are compuslory etc.
Window glass - don't need it, polycarbonate gets fitted & even historics have heated front screens.
Radiator - don't need it, rally cars use alloy or safari spec rads.
Bonnet & boot - don't need them, rally cars use lightweight versions.
Axle - don't need them, English axle too weak & diff ratio wrong anyway.
Tramp bars & rear shocks - don't need them, 5 link & turrets.
Front & rear brakes - don't need them, m16's & drums normally get binned for better brakes.
Brake servo - Don't need it, not used in rallying.
Instruments - don't need them, stack rev counter etc.
Gearbox - don't need it, a gear kit for it is more expensive a box ready to go & its only 4 speed.
Split prop - don't need it, rarely used on a rally car.
Front struts & shocks - don't need them, better ones are fitted.
Engine - not much use in standard form, cheaper to buy a quick motor than have standard BDA rebuilt for motorsport.
Body shell - yes a good one worth good money & rally prep companies import them by the container load.

Are you really saying that 'all' the parts are sourced from stolen cars!
I'm sure the dozens of rally part suppliers might argue with that

Also with you being into rallying for so many years you are well aware of this to and the people that do it so stop talking rubbish

There are people getting far worse news everyday than having their car stolen, five pages of sympathy is a bit much IMO but I am old and very cynical.
