  • Alittle help req'd

Came to put the suspension , ARB, crosmember etc back on the car today so i can get thewheels on so i can move the car and came across a problem , i cant get the crossmember bolt holes to line up wit the holes in the engine bay , i think it might be because of the steering column knuckle that ajoins the column to the rack .

What i need to know is how far does the bar with the splines on go into the knuckle , take a look at the pics and see if you can tell if this is far enough in

You need to go further in my boy! X members are a sod to line3 up at the best of times. Just prize the Knuckle open slightly and that should make life easier for you

If you look on the first pic you can see that the splined bit is past the open ended part and up to a hole in the part just before the plastic bit does the splined part have to go through this hole and up to the plastic?

And if you look at the 2nd pic there is a flat part on the splines does this go right into the hole so that no flat part is showing?

      cheers

just needs to go far enough in in order to line up the cross member. Copper slip or WD40 usually helps the "Slide"

just take out the steering column 1/2 hour to an hour makes the job twice as easy , then you just fit cross member and then put column back remembering that its coming back out when y7ou refit the motor so leave all bolts hand tight :thumbleft: put a dab of grease on bolts and nuts make it so sweeter when you come to remove it again :brilsmurf:

I've never bothered to try an re-fit the X-member with the rack still attached for these exact reasons.

I would agree that the joint does look 'Donald' though.
