  • more hassle

many of you may remember me saying my battery boiled over a few weeks ago, and damaged the paint on the slam panel?? i suspected a nackered battery and replaced it. i havnt really used the car for a few weeks, and today i fitted the ALDON ignitor i purchased. the car started straight away and ran nicely, but i noticed the interior light glowing very brightly, 'funny how electronic ignition can make bulbs glow brighter' i thought, and fetched my volt meter, i placed probes across the battery to show my alternator was kicking out 18 volts!! then it dropped back to 14V, then went back upto 17 volts!! so i now have an intermittent fault on the voltage regulator circuit within my alternator, so will be changing it hastily. no wonder the battery blew up.

i also ordered a new coil, so hopefully nothing else will go wrong before ireland in less than 3 weeks?

can i suggest everyone just tests theirs quickly, to prevent yourselves the same hassle i have had.....?

Use the left hand. It does the same as the right hand, but it feels as if someone else's car is charging your battery.

as discussed with bri, mine has a threaded hole at the top, for the support arm, so moving, will only place the threaded hole at the bottom where i dont want it........

anyways, correct one collected today, fitted, and i finally got to drive with my new electronic ign. im not sure if its the ignitor, or the new coil i fitted, but the car feels like never before to drive!! bloody awsome!!

only thing is, after a zelous drive, i appear to have a wee dribble of oil from my gearbox, on the exhaust....will have to watch this closely

Was it the Bosch type they got you ? With the external regulator on the back (held on with 2 cross head screws) ?

I priced one up from the auto electrical supplier that I use, and he doesn't keep stocks of ready made ones on the shelf but he could have made one for you.

About £50 plus vat would have been the price give or take a fiver ??

                          Then postage on top obviously
                          Cheers Rob.
