                Where will it all end

I'd try and get an injection head for it, nice and cheap from the scrappys, whack a set of new guides in it and a hi-torque cam (can't remember the number, but I had one in my Harrier when it was pinto'd) and it should go nicely on the std carb.
                Cheers Rob.

i have a set off 44IDF'S ready to rock, so will junk the standard carb, need something a little more high spec to complement them i think

they look better than this now....

You need a head like Frosty has just got !!!!

Stick an HT1 cam in it and you'll see the thick end of 160 horses*

*(this is an un-verified made up figure and no credence should be given to it whatsoever)
                    Cheers Rob.

i am kinda swaying that way, but i wont get no change outta £1k then it'll need setting up. im trying not to spend too much,i've spent too much already, but its inevitable. i will probably need electronic ign, breathers and other stuff im not sure about to get full benefit. i need a lesson in tuning pinto's. i have ordered the 'how to powertune a pinto' from amazon, but it has a predicted delivery of mid may!! i kinda wanted to be gen'd up by then on what i need besides a head and cam as i want to get moving when i get back from ireland

The list is long and expensive when it comes to bits and pieces. I've got a copy of the Power tuning pinto book (have you tried Burtons - as I got mine off the shelf there).

Ported head, with 3 angle seats, big valves, bronze guides, machined spring seats to allow greater cam lift without valve spring coil binding, double springs, alloy retaining caps, vernier cam wheel, skimmed head, dowelled inlet manifold to make sure the ports line up correctly every time, cam of your choice (where do you want the power ??). Followers, ball studs etc etc etc.

I spent £500 in parts and labour on a head REBUILD for my HT pinto, this didn't include a cam or any porting, just 8 valves, followers, springs and guides etc

Then the bottom end, do you want a 2.1 ? (overbored 2.0 in reality) or a 2.2 ? (offset ground crank with fiesta diesel rods and forged pistons) If the compression is going up then wire rings may be a good idea (machined groves in the block face) Whatever you decide, a balance of the crank/rods/pistons/front pulley/flywheel is a good idea, and then you're into new bearings/pistons/rods etc etc etc.

The Powertume book talks a lot about valve train geometry, have a look at Steve Tews sight (Yellow Peril) he has had Dave Brooks sort out the top end of his pinto, along with some follower modifications.
                        Cheers Rob.

incedentally, i do have a head off a '89 P100, which i think is unleaded?? any easy way to tell? can i do anything with this head? get it ported, fit a cam? i want to keep the stock head as is, incase i swap it back at any time

i was planning on keeping the stock bottom end in place for the time being, i'll address a 2.1, lightening/balancing once i've wrecked it!! seriously though, looking for minimal fuss, dont want the car off the road any more than it need be, so a weekend head swap is enough for me currently.....

P100's and Transits are low compression engines, so I don't think the heads are very good to start with (although I'm not 100% certain)
                              Cheers Rob.
