Browsing through a Google Search the other week I stumbled upon an address for MK1 and Mk2 which is about 25 minutes away from where I live when I'm in Germany. Never heard of the outfit, so decided to have a nip around the next time I was in Germany, which was last week.
Discovered a couple of ramshackle sheds and a chap who's been doing Escorts for aeons. He'd got a couple of BDA's in, a couple of other Mk 1's and a Mk2 RS2000. He does the serious race prep stuff and gets contracts based on weight reduction - i.e. he gets paid for every 100g he can save on the car. He's got Mk1 there which is going to cost about €70000 !
Photographed a couple of Mk2's outside (4 in total). He casually mentioned that those were just the odd ones which wouldn't fit into his secret hangar anymore!
He does batchloads of cad plating stuff (not really concourse quality but blasted and plated simply) so I rummaged around a bit. He gave me a bag to put the stuff in together with some HD rubbers and a gasket set. Note also the perfect rear exhaust bracket! Paid him €75 (£50) for the lot. Saved me about 8 weeks of wire brushing and buying a cadplate kit etc!
NO - I'm not going to say where he is and he wasn't too keen on the Brits as he sees them as turning up and making offers on shells to be able to make a killing in UK.
I'll be popping past as often as possible and maybe he can start warming to the idea of letting me have some sidescreen rubber seals from some of his shells etc.!
To be honest, I dread asking about some bits as I'm sure he's the type who throws bulkhead pads in the skip, muttering "bloody load of unnecessary weight!"
