Then take the £100,000 to set up this type of operation. quote]

where did you get that figure from? I suspect that, in round numbers, you'd be looking at more like 20 or 30 times that amount to do the job properly. Do you know how much press-tooling costs? (Ford aren't gonna lend you their's!)
Then all the tooling to line the shells up, spot welding gear.

Even if, worst case scenario, you bought all the panels from somebody who is already pressing them - i reckon just tooling up to assemble the shells properly would be well in excess of that £100k figure.

But like we've said, it's all irrelevant - you'd not be allowed to do it anyway, no matter how much money you were prepared to spend.

nevermind, we can go on dreaming

The sum came from 100 people paying £1000. Quite easy to calculate actually. The scenario depicted uses existing shells and rejuvenates them. Why would that be forbidden?

No presses as the basis is the quote of all available Ex-pressed Steel panels for Escort II.

£100000 would surely pay the deposit and a few months rent on an old Lancashire mill as a factory, buy spot welding gear, and make up some jigs to align panels.

Sure, the project would be feasible like that. To make it work, you need to get some YOP (does that still exist in UK?) funding, set it up as a training programme for welders, get publicity going, get a couple of rallye sponsors. You may be surprised but, put into the right package, Ford might throw in a bit too. Ask Jeremy and his Ego along. The whole thing has to be a passion rather than a business. Maybe some long-term unemployed bodyshoppers would put their hand in to keep their hand in (so to speak).

The point I'm making is not the feasibility but the profitability.

i just don't think its a good thing if it happens..as it will be every other man owning a mk2 escort they will drop in price no one will restore the old ones and they will all go. keep it like it is..there is one thing i like about mk2 escorts and its that you can drive down the road and not see another one or a car that looks like it....thats the best bit for me.

              Interesting point, however ......

For years now you've been able to buy more or less new E-Type and MGB shells. (As they weren't really shells, the terminology might be misleading). At any rate, you can virtually remanufacture these cars with new or repro parts today, but you don't exactly see them on every street corner, do you?

I think that, just 'cos we have a passion for Escorts, we think everyone would buy one if they could. Reality is different. You should have heard my ex- ' opinion about me liking Escort Mk2's!

id prefer to see more escorts ont he road tbh.

at the end of the day, itd probably save more escorts than lose the, i mean, all the bufty boys and rally boys would buy the brand new ones, which means the second hand 2 door shells would be nice and cheap, so that everyone who wanted oen could afford one. lets not be elitist here,
