  • help and advice please - ive seen a an RS (now with pics)

    hi all

Im looking for a bit of advice as im in the market for mk2 RS and dont really know that much about them - ive owned several mk5 and 6 RS2000's so thought id take a step back in time.

anyway - im going to see a a white rs2k that has been fully restored apparently , its stripped out thouth with roll cage and bucket seats up front - engine 2.1 on twin 45's and at the moment thats all i know - from the pics ive seen its immaculate

What kinda price am i looking at and what things should i be looking at when i go to view it ?

    Cheers in advance

As quoted above it's stripped out. As you know it can cost a fortune to put it all back in again. Take the price of seats, not to mention carpets and dash, panel cards ect.

Impossible to price the car wihtout seeing but taking it as good, ie patched/repaneled, but well done, with a few minor surface rust spots, I can't see it being much over 4K
We're not Brazil, we're Northern Ireland

Well been to see teh car and it looks very nice - i dont know a lot aboutthe mk2 escorts so please excuse my ignorance when i mention whta i can remember of teh spec.

2.1 , twin 45s, Kent R something cam, World cup crossmember ( ?) , coilovers, , he mentioned loads more that i cant remember

                  some pics

And the worse bit imo ( though the flash on teh camera makes it look worse - Inside on the roof

Asking price is 4k no offer

                  What ya think guys ?

                      Restored? restored to what?

You've really got to say what you want to do with the RS! Do you want something for track days or stock car racing?

If you're talking "restored" it means it should be at least complete as far as parts go.

Forget the bs about Kent Cams etc. You can buy those over the counter and pop them in at the weekend. It's ONLY the rust / restoration / welding state of the body that matters IMHO and also the presence of seats, carpets, trim etc. if you're looking for a restored car.

It's far more fun to get a good condition standard car and spend money on bolt-on goodies than to get a boiler-plate welded dog with lots of bolt-on goodies to then spend you're money and time on rust and body panels.

If you've been into Mk6 's, you will always be vastly underestimating the capacity of a MkII to rust away from underneath you!

PS: on the first pic something seems to be a bit wrong on the front wing to door shut line - maybe just a trick of the light.

Above all, take your time and look at as many as possible first. Watch out for rust between the front and rear number plates!

Try also a search on this BB. The subject has been covered once or twice in the past.

i would have a good dig around it. has it just had a quick blow over paint job to go on the market?? seems to be a bit of what looks like fresh over-spray/ sanding dust around.(prop, rad, hoses, rear bottom shock, front inner arches), or is it just my eyes? also in 2nd pic, has the rear of the o/s door dropped a bit?
                        good luck.
                        😯

I wouldnt call that newly restored to be honest and overall its ok but not great, the strut top have had some =thing done too, even the steering wheel looks mouldy ? I think it needs proper investigation by someone who know what to look for imo

Agree with above, you need to decide what you want from the car, and go from there, picking my words carefully, it looks like its been chucked together, had a hard life and is a mish mash of all different bits and pieces, but i think its fair to say, currently, 4k wont buy you that nicer car, good luck anyway
