  • Mk2 escort xflow charge circuit

I'm not getting a charge from my alternator, which is brand new. Where do the 2 red wires from the back of the alternator feed to? I assumed that they would connect to the back of the starter but this doesn't seem to be the case. Any help would be much appreciated.

Make sure the alternator is earth as I powered coat my bracket which stop it from earthing ! Also the light must be out for it to charge which you can test with a link wire from the small wire on the back of the alternate to the back of the dash ! Which mine had a break in the wire

The charging isn't reliant on the lamp wiring. With engine stopped the light gets a 12v to one side with the other being earthed via the alt. Internal wiring. Once alt. is turning and generating voltage on that wire it cancels out of the other side. Hence if the alt. output is failing the voltages are unbalanced so the light glows subject to the imbalance.
