hmmmm... not sure about that. Wasn't there some incredibly complicated method whereby the tax was collected at point of delivery for transfer to the tax authorities at the country of origin?

I seem to recall some UK companies were saying they wre not in a position to familiarise themselves with the tax to be levied for 27 different EU countries, non?

AFAIK the duty must be levied in the country where the goods are being imported. Obviously if you are exporting that will mean having to calculate the taxes levied in 27 countries in order to state the final cost, but there that's what happens when you leave a trading bloc.

For the customer "quasi importing" an item, you are responsible for paying the duty as most countries have a regime to prevent "double taxation", i.e. if I buy an item from the UK, the supplier (UK business) does not collect the VAT but when it arrives here the German authorities do, plus (depending on the value, i.e. goods up to 135 quid should not incur import duty) the import duty. Which can be a bit unfortunate for items from the US, as in some states there is no sales tax, but when the item arrives in Europe it will definetly be subject to VAT.

              I'm loving this eBay seller:

"No overseas bidding until EU regulations are resolved"

I wonder what he's waiting for which has to be resolved. The uncertainty was over the last 4 years, it's resolved now, and UK is a Sovereign Nation dealing with a third party trading block - the EU. There might be some easing if the item is manufactured entirely in the UK, but anything else will be more or less just like exporting to USA. Seems some people are waiting for things to get back to how it was before Brexit!

Loving it too that it's the EU regulations which have to be resolved!

Buying and selling stuff as a private person has come to a complete standstill. Not only because Brexit.
When I did the Escort calendars (A2 size) I could post these to almost everywhere for just over 6 Euro postage. Today this would cost double that (as UK isn't in EU anymore) or triple that if I wanted tracktrace.
I've sent little things (like a wheelnut) to UK for a few euro in a jiffy bag (small parcel). Today because it is not a letter this needs to be in a proper parcel, with notification to customs office plus receiver in uk could/would need to pay tax and import duties.
If someone in UK send me a wheelnut (even for free) I would need to pay tax and import duties (from July 1st on for everything not just parts over 22 euro) plus the post office (postman) will charge 9 euro as cost for collecting the tax and import duties.
Before 2021 I could send a large parcel (for instance rear spoiler) to UK by GLS for 19 Euro; as UK is no longer in EU GLS doesn't deliver to UK anymore. Prices for a courier are over the top as they are faced with all the new rules also.
                  Rant over.

Bit of an own goal for UK exports too. In my "other" car club (Stag) one of the guys just got two orders delivered from UK. (I won't include VAT as that was deducted at source and collected at destination at about the same rate):
                    Order No1. £957
                    Customs duty €35.70
DHL charge for advance payment of customs duty: €14.88
DHL handling of Customs formalities: €62.48
                    Order No2. £143
                    Customs duty €4.33
UPS charge for advance payment of customs duty: €14.88
UPS handling of Customs formalities: €113.05
Unfortunately for the Stag, most stuff comes from UK, but Escort stuff? I'll certainly try to source locally in EU in future or simply muddle through with proprietary bits as far as poss.

The thing with the letter, i.e. you can't send hardly anything as a letter anymore is due to the Chinese, i.e. the rest of the world (esp. EU, US) was fed up with delivering goods from China for a pittence, so the international rules were changed and goods sent as a large letter will be returned to the sender.
I'm pretty sure you'll find that doubling the cost is due the changes to the international postal agreements.

Yep, it is a real pi$$er that companies like GLS have stopped delivering to the UK, but hey ho, it cannot be changed.

To be fair though, even with the extra costs Stag replacement parts are much cheaper than Escort parts, still why pay more???!!!

On a positive post-Brexit note, a couple of weeks ago I was left driving the RS with a gear stick in my hand. My last original dampened stick had literally fallen apart in me 'ands guv. I'd been putting off getting a rose jointed vibrator and tooth filling remover gearstick, but discovered that Burtons do a "quiet" one now. Ordered it 10 days ago on Friday afternoon, was sent out on Saturday, arrived at UK airport Sunday, arrived at German airport Monday; customs, import taxes etc., were notified to me on Tuesday, I paid online, and the stick was delivered in Bavaria Wednesday lunchtime. Only had to pay import VAT (but UK VAT was deducted anyway) and a small DHL handling charge.

On a side note - the stick is brilliant! no vibration felt or heard, I've never had an Escort with such a precise clean shift before - well recommended!

Yeah, well I had the same experience with Burtons recently, aI bought a set of springs. They have the expensive but reliable and fast DHL delivery. However, pre Brexit a pair of springs delivered about 60 quid, post Brexit 110 (with all charges and duty)…

As regards a gearstick, I have a genuine NOS stick in my motor but would be interested to see what Burton's effort is like.
