For an average "Joe" I don't think so hence why the Police take a SKF tech with them on raids - if bearing suppliers (legit ones who should know better) are either getting caught or are deliberately passing them off as good - what chance have we got! I guess follow the SKF advice and buy from authorised re-seller - quality costs!

Counterfeit
It can be really difficult for a manufacturer dealing with counterfeit product. Obviously not good for any manufacturer having poor quality non-genuine products being sold as genuine, as even though non-genuine, with the prevalence of social media & forums it is still damaging to the brand. But trying to stop it can be almost impossible.
From the manufacturers point of view of trying to inform the general public on how to spot non-genuine items, you also run the risk of informing the counterfeiters on how to make better copies.
Really the only advice is to give is, if it seems too cheap to be true then be wary, or as previous poster, only purchase from trusted/authorised source.
You could try contacting the manufacturer direct if you suspect fake, as they may ask to be sent the items to check for authenticity. If lucky, they may even replace with new items to retain the copy goods (give them full details and any copies of invoices from seller), but the manufacturer is under no legal obligation to do this.

they weren't cheap, two skf bearings for the rear axle came in with postage at around the £100.00 mark from a uk company that lists it's products extensively on the internet.
the bearings in question were fitted at my local engineers and had done approximately 1000 miles before they gave up with axle oil getting past them and your typical worn out axle bearing noise

fitted 2 to 2 different Axles, April 2018
Got the first 1 from my local Motor factors for my own car
It was a -FAG one , it had no oil seal - £25
A friend bought 1 from Burtons , no name on it - had the Oil seal fitted - £ 25
Both seemed good quality , both still going
Time will tell .....

Neither - just used as an example of what I expect to pay for genuine SKF! Over the years the amount of words that have been written about how to solve / cure 'newly fitted' leaking bearings is just daft - added o rings, added seals, removing seals, heavy grease etc, etc - when the simple answer is spend the right money for a correct product. Cost your own additional tinkering time out at £10 / hr and those 'genuine expensive' bearings soon begin to look economical!
