[QUOTE=LOUIE;730077]Originally posted by robrs2 View PostIts not about opinions. Its about what is legal and correct to the current rules. There is no problem using the shells but passing it of as an original shell, transfering old shell numbers..etc is the problem.
The shell is a replacment part, even though its not from ford so can be used, but it needs to have the right ID.
It may be a boring topic for you if your never going to change cars. But with the price of them now, getting one that has been re-shelled with the new type shell that is passed of as "mint, unwelded, original" will be a bit of a ****er.
You've agreed with me while trying to disagree with me... The legal side hasn't been cleared up other than the keyboard boyswhat i need is a high horse like the others have !

With all this chat about these new mk2 escort shells and the ID/REGISTATION
of them WHAT IS THE CORRECT WAY TO GET A REGISTATION NUMBER FOR ONE ???????????????????????? AND WITH IT BEING A BRAND NEW SHELL WOULD IT GET A 2017 NUMBER??????????????????
THANKS
Rules are very clear, a new shell isn't a problem with the law just like any other replacement car shell already on the market.
you can re-shell a car legally with a new shell, doesn't have to be an original Ford part.
You can legally transfer the ID if at least 2 major components are retained. These can be engine, gearbox, axle & even the steering counts as a major component.
Might not suit everyone's point of view but them's the rules.
to register a 'New' build on a new plate:
You can register a kit-built car, motorcycle or tricycle with a current registration number if you can prove it’s all made from new parts.
You can also get a current registration number for a kit-built car, motorbike or tricycle built with one reconditioned part if:
you can show that the part has been reconditioned to an ‘as new’ standard, in line with the manufacturer’s guidelines the part isn’t the chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame
(in the is case the shell would be new of course, so you could use one other reconditioned part & still get a new plate.)

Correct - you may transfer the ID or Vehicle registration number BUT NOT THE CHASSIS NUMBER! Doing that is technically ringing it.
You should phone DVLA and request a chassis number and that should be stamped onto the shell - not a riveted plate as in the past.
Then if you wish to transfer the Reg. Number to that rebuilt car is should be checked by DVLA maybe through an IVA test or certified Motor Engineers report so that the reg doc V5 will show new chassis number and they will declare the old number scrapped / void.
I'm, going through this crap currently trying to re-register a bike as a trike - all I want is a Q plate but the freaking hoops you have to jump through is staggering!
