    confusion is

    Hi Darren,

I thought that the DVLA took into account the earlier build date and not the first reistration date.

If they won't, then its another years wait me thinks.

    I'm not definate though!

          Worth the effort

Go for it Darran, its worth the trouble and saves £250/260 per year? Tax man has enough from all of us!!

Someone on here will have a link to the Ford enquiries.

I think I'm right in saying 1977 cars won't be tax exempt until 1st April 2017!

                April 2017

Darran's car will not be exempt on April 1st 2017 unless he can prove an earlier build date than the 1/1/1977.

Fancy not know where is indutry is registered, der!

Ask Aled. As I believe his build date was 31/12/75, and registered in January 76, he had free tax in 2016

The DVLA really are willing to help and not obstruct I found just as long as they have some evidence for their records.

They seem to work from April to April rather than the 1st January.

Also as stated they work on build date too (as long as it can be proven)

So, though mine was registered 13 Jan 1976 but built Dec 1975, their take on it was I would have to wait until April the year after HOWEVER what I did was to provide evidence to them of the VIN plate / chassis number which of course they already had and I also sent to them a VIN -Plate decoder feature that I had saved a from Classic Ford Magazine which PROVED the build date.

They didn't query anything and sent me a new Historic log book very quickly.

                        Best of luck
