  • Going to look at one...

Hi, I have been lurking for a while and I have the chance to get a black MK2 RS2000.

What i have been told about the car is its pretty much original, its a non custom but has the RS 4 spokes on it. 4 speed box, 4 owners, around 60k miles, car still has its original brake lines, I'm looking at it on wednesday, is there any advice you can give me to look out for, any help is greatly appreciated, thanks, Sean.

Look for rust, unfortunately it's common on these old cars

As above, but also see if the chassis number starts GCAT and everything matches up with the V5C.

If you want it, get it, before someone else beats you to it.

Mechanicals are easily fixed so as long as it's all there not that important.
Watch out for Previous Accident damage iv seen a few bent ones. Look for serious corrosion basically everywhere.
It all depends on what you are looking for? project or mint
If your near Edinburgh I could have a look for you.

thanks for the replies guys, went to look at to tonight with a friend who knows more about them than me, body work is in great condition, probably had paint at some time in its life but to be expected. The fishnets are also in great condition, sagging a little but nothing to bad, no rust around wheel well, original wings, inner wings, drives pretty well on original 4 speed box. the engine ca probably do with getting taken out, new gaskets, painted etc but thats it, the engine bay paint is in good condition aswell, just needs a good clean, its what its worth now I need to think about and the way prices are going!!

If it is a proper original car and you can afford it then buy it because one day it will look cheap.
