I remember when i was about 5 my big brother had a white mk1 and a mk2 in some ones front garden, i used to watch him working on them and hear them being reved up. i loved the noise apparently!

My dad always had loads of older cars too thats why i like mk1+2 granadas to my girlfriends discust!

I just had to get a mk2 i wanted one since i was 9 i'd made my mind up and it had to be white too!

I'm happy now!!! ( so is my brother! )

Watching the Professionals of course, but also I remember driving behind an estate car of some description with my friend and his dad - I must have been about 10 years old and, in the back of the estate car, was the nosecone from a Java Green MKII RS2000 - I knew then that was the car I wanted - got my first MKII RS2000 when I was 17 and have always had one since then...

as a kid walking to junior school i passed what turned out to be a mk1 with full steel arches, all caged up with huge white weller wheels.
There was also a well battered mk2 just round the corner, guy used to be fixing it in the back street and rev the balls off it when it ran..... my dad used to hate it....." bloody knackered old fords, why cant he get a decent car like a vauxhall" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we had a viva at the time, enough said.
Found out later when i got my mex at 20 that the mk2 was still round the corner in a garage fitted with "one of those rally engines".... only a 1600 BDA!!!!!!!!!!!! not 2 weeks later the guy died of a heart attack and his misses let the car go, his grave stone has an engraving of his mk2 on it..... now thats what i call a ford nut.

My Dad took me to a rothmans rally, dont remember much about it apart from the escorts and the rain. So the love affair started.

Lived all my life in the classic rally area of Yorkshire with loads of escort drivers in the same village like the Stephensons (who I still service for) and just up the road a bit Banner who we chase for and help out on the same events.First car was a MK1 I bought of my brother ,who bought it from a local farmer which was an ex Ford press/recce car (alegedly used by RAC to take pace notes on the Monte) RS1600 reg VEV 484L.1700 BDA L1 cams steel arched, etc.also had the custom pack with those special seats that everyone will sell thier soles for at the moment. Sold the BDA TO Yuk and fittted a 1600 pushrod and went road rallying.Sold the car to a mate who ran into the school bus and wrote it off.If only i had just kept it as an RS1600 and put it in a garage I could have afforded a GRP4 MK11 know, but 22 years ago you didn't think of things like that.

Got into RS's through watching rallying in the 70's and onwards with my brother and my old man big into motorsport.
Remember my dad competing in 1976 Tour of Britain, in a red Mk2 Mex - KVJ 700P - wonder where that car is now??
Never thought I would ever have enough money to buy one, but took some advice from a guy I used to work who was an RS2 owner/enthusiast, got myself a loan from the bank and bought my Mex over 18years ago. I can still remember the feeling of driving it for the first time!!!!
