My problem wasn't so much whether I could afford to retire - it was more a "time" thing, I just needed more time to do all my restoration projects, build another couple of BDAs and what not.
My mother retired from teaching at 57 and she's still going strong at 88 so I too had set my heart on retiring at 57 and I just made it with a few weeks to spare. If I can last anywhere nearly as long as my mum I should be able to get a few of those projects done and hopefully continue rallying the BDA for a good few years yet. Saying that my Daughter/Navigator Laura is already lining up a list of her own restoration projects so I'll still be pretty busy. She wants her BDA powered Mexico done, she wants her "Classic Mini" restored and she wants a rally car built for herself - and that's just to start with.
